Does it have to be one or the other? I like the AR-51, but would want something a little more chesty for rap. Can't speak to the Peluso. Check out some other forums--I think the U-87 is actually a pretty common choice for rap. For female rnb vox the AR-51 is definitely a contender.

Thanx!
But i'm from Ukraine and in my country very hard to find old u87! :(
Do you know where i can get old u87 except ebay?
For female vox i have At4060.
I'm looking somthing for male vox, i hear samples of ar-51 and they were good on the male singing. But it was singing not rapping...
I'm comfused..

I'd probly take the Peluso 2247. I tend to like my vocals a little dark, then brighten them up with efx and processing. Once they are recored bright, it's hard to take it away.

I just ordered the new Telefunken Copperhead today, I'll let you know how it sounds once I get a chance to use it.

I can't really comment as I have not used one but one of the engineers I trust most loves hisTelefunken for almost all vocals when I have been around (all male except for a female rapper, various genres). Sounded great to me. I can't compare it to the other mic, never heard it but I was very impressed.

The CU-29 Copperhead is a bit darker than the AR-51. Most Rap/Hip-hop guys I've recorded seem to prefer the brighter AR-51 sound because it sounds more like the records they listen to, but for many voices/songs where I want a little more silk and a little less edge I would prefer the Copperhead. Here are a couple shootouts we've done with different Telefunken mics which help give an idea of the differences:

Telefunken Mic Comparison - Telefunken 251e, AR-51, CU-29 Copperhead, and AR-513 Mics

Tube Microphone Comparison - Telefunken 251, U47, C12, and More

Greetings from the USA!

I think you have many options. Lawson, Neumann, Gefell, plenty of reputable companies have great mics in this price range.

How is the Ukraine? I am third generation American by way of Ukraine.

Telefunken Copperhead was a bust. It sounded super "bitey, and lacking bottom" Sent it back ASAP.... I heard back something was supposedly wrong with the power supply, but it was vague, and I didn't want to chance it with another one.

Got a Peluso 251 yesterday, and I'm liking it so far just listing to my voice and a few friends testing it out.
I'm thinking get a Peluso 67 or 47 limited next, since the 251 sounds really clear.

If you got a Copperhead that was "bitey" and lacking bottom, then there was definitely something wrong with it. It's a darker mic than the AR-51. Smooth with plenty of bottom. It was the darkest mic out of the 251e, AR-51, and AR-513 we compared in the tests above.

Peluso 22-251 would be a better choice for Rap/R&B than the 2247LE by far IMO and it's cheaper. I've heard good things on the P12 also but haven't tried it but I own the 2247SE and the 22-251.

I might try the copperhead again, but I'll try a rental or demo unit. I hate returning stuff.
I like the Peluso 251 better than my U87 so far. I think it might be good for lead vox for that clarity, BG's and others with a darker mic.

Sorry I know this thread is kinda old but I was wondering what darker mic you got to go with the Peluso 251?

I just got the Blackspade UM25C and have the Peluso P67 but find it to be brighter then a u67. So I'm looking for something a bit darker and mid forward to go with the UM25C.
