simulated dj scratches, through editing

hey, I use to kinda edit vocal samples to make them sound like a dj cutting them (if you know what I mean.) This was back when I was using pro tools with the vari-fi plugin. Since moving to cubase, I haven't been able to pull this off.

I was curious to know if you guys had any editing tricks to do this. It's a drag to have to track down a dj everytime you want something with that feel...

Best way I know is via a DJ. I'll never try it any other way. WHen I need a guitar, I call a guitar player. IT's the same principal

Agreed - getting a DJ to do the job is often the easiest/best way... but for those times where its just you & your own two hands... the way i do it (with a Pro Control & DAT) is....Use the Jog/Shuttle wheel on the controller & route the monitor audio onto DAT - record it back in job done... with the limitation of no line or X-fader to cut... but hey .. it works!!

Hope this helps..

peace

Serato Scratch is definitely choice.
You can also map your sound to two different keys in a sampler one going forward; the other set to reverse with the sample truncated properly. Gives you a quick forward reverse with chops if you have the first sample set to note off.
Serato is the bomb though.

mixing scratches

by the way-
how do you mix scratches in the song?
fx, eqs and dynamic wise.

i tend to cut of low end and ad a little er+room.

how about you guys?

Trickery through audio editing (no scratch programs or turntables)
www.cluburbandance.com (streaming mp3s)

I know you don't love me (Tony Yayo) (double time extreme audio edits)
Hypnotize (system of a down) (super extreme audio edit)
Reggaeton meets hip hop mix (a dave the one super serious extreme edited dj mix)

These tracks contain extreme multi edits; lots of panning efx, simulated turntable trickery and downright crazy reel to reel simulated banana splices.

Peace
Dave
