i use to make beats and lease them for 6 months @ $1,500 & up per track. included was 4 hours to record their vox and mix. each additional hr was about $45 per.

after the the six months the client loses his exclusive right to the track unlease he wanted to to renue the liscence for another 6 months @ $750 & up per track. if the chose not to renue the can still use the track in shoping for a deal but i can re-liscence it to some one else. of course the next person who leases that track will have priority on that track.

i made this all clear to each customer. i pulled in about 3-5k per week with minimal "session " time and had plenty of time to creat more tracks and worked on my own personal projects.

i also agree people will only pay you what you think you're worth.

You cant knock out 3 tracks a day? (not talking about masterpieces either...just beats for dudes to spit to?)...also if u want u can have them sign a contract saying that the 200 is a down payment on the track if they use if for anything other than a mixtape...then u can negotiate a back end with someone thats has the intention of going somewhere.

You all make it seem like I want him to sell beats for 250 for life... I'd love for you to come around here asking for that type of $$$ your talking without a name... to broke cats with no budget... People give beats away just to have a credit... to build demand for themselves... if regular cats are making bread off no-names around your way... I'll bounce around your way... set-up shop... and take food from out your babies mouths... and thats Real Talk... shit aint that sweet...

I know a couple people off the top who have Neptunes tracks that didn't pay a penny for them... I can say the same for Chad West, Bink, Boola, Chucky T., Rich Harrison, 88 Keys, Heatmakerz, so on and so on...

As for leasing beats... you must have bangers... cus I've never met anyone who charged that much or ever got paid re-up $$$ like that... keep up the good work... I still dont think an iron clad lease agreement isn't gonna stop it from making it on a mixtape... devaluing to the beat... and any legal recoarse from licensing a sound recording to a broke person will have you on Judge Mathis or People Court... ass out... the burden of proof on something stamped "For Promotional Use Only"... is gonna get you nothing... cus no law was broken... at least that you can prove...

I also think if you anyone is unwilling to sell beats for cheap... and you lost your JOB!!!... your catalogue must be weak... or your Personal Worth/Artistic Value isn't worth having a roof over your head...

Big Budgets barely exist and an Emcee recouping... hmmm... Thats a whole other talk show...

Man.....u better pay it fast before they disconnect them and take you electric meter

on topic: Set a price for your beats, but tell the artist you will work with them with the price if they buy a few beats. U have to be a salesman son, if not someone down the street is gonna take that sale.
