How to get kick and snare samples...

hey!

always, when im starting a new track, i have a problem:
i need new or other kicks and snares, because i cant use the same all the time and they dont fit always to the sound.

sometimes i try to cut them out from other hiphop-tracks, but thats not that good... mostly theres too much "other sound" in the background.

so i wanted to ask you: where i can get good kicks and snares???
and a special question: im searching for kicks and snares like in eminems "cleanin out my closet". im working on a track with a similar "atmosphere". where i can find sound like that???
3rd question: what drum-software do you use and what would you suggest me to use? (at the moment im more interested in the hiphop-section... but im happy about each advice...)

thx

He's saying "dig" in the crates...basically searching through old records, CD's, tapes...whatever you have....I know what you mean though..I had this thing years ago (and still do) where I always wanted a fresh drum kit when working on a new beat (sure I have favorites sounds that I would still load up) But I would always end up digging for more sounds...Hell, if a friend came over with some CD's I'd go through them like a mad man trying to find a good kick or snare..anything...They do have sample CD's out there that I really don't think is worth it... They have on-line dealers who will ship you sample percussion hits...I've just never really found anything out there that's really worth spending the kind of money they want for it... I have alot of friends that have bought MP's lately and I just bless them with my drums kits that I have created over the years.... They're very appreciable...but I wish somebody would have done that with me when I first started... It really takes some time to go through a bunch of records or CD's to find drum sounds....but it's worth it!

not saying while im digging for other sounds i won't grab a nice drum loop or one-shot if i hear it, but i'm with you on that one...only for drums. it's still very worth it to dig for other samples...instrument loops, one shots, etc.

but for drums - get on ebay, get on your favorite file sharing platform (usenet, emule, whatever), ask your friends, trade samples, etc.

i've got more drums than i know what to do with. also, any producer worth his weight will know how to take drums he has and layer em to make new ones.

as long as you got protools, there's plenty of records out with very stealable drums-----eric sermon-music
clipse-pussy, grindin
kanye-last call
eve-(forget the name, but it starts "now i'ma do this thing like it aint done b4")---GREAT clap
usher---u don't have to call
eminem--haileys song
SO MANY dre records
just look around---everytime i listen to music, my ears are subconciously looking for ANYTHING to steal--a kik a snare a shaker a hit, anything---theres ALOT out there

with protools, its so easy to look at the wave form, and find isolated hits--you might have to do some tricky editing, or some filtering, but i feel like i can take drums from almost anything-----even if there IS noise, just make sure you pitch it to the key of the song, and it may even ADD some grittyness/texture... hey if i get a chance, i'll see if i'm up to the challenge, i'll see what i can do to get the cleanin out my closet snare as isolated as i can....

why go on ebay or some shit and buy the same drums as every other herb? dig and find your own. rock records are goldmines for drums. find that shit that the next nigga isn't up on yet.
besides, there's nothing wrong with someone paying a little dues. this is hiphop. it'll pay off.

I grab kicks and snares from anything, anywhere. I'll grab a sound of a horse taking a crap on a skateboard if it sounds lke a kick drum.
DO what ever it takes for you to get that sound without being sued!
GOOD LUCK!

Honestly just go to sounds for samplers or Bangin Beats
They cost money but they are hot drums.

this works in theory. but 9 times out of ten, your not gonna get anything edgy enough for hip hop----maybe a groove, but you'll eventually have to replace the hits, cause the kiks and snares of most real kits just don't have the texture, or hard enough attacks...most of the time
