| Mobile Absorbing Vocal Booth Auralex MAX-Wall VB Mobile Absorbing Vocal Booth What you think of that?? does it really work ?? is it close to a real vocal booth?? i need real strong isolation for rap vocals and proximity effect etc... I'm used to "SSL" studios' vocal booths, will this sound at least close to that?? |

| blankets yeah, i've seen people using blankets, for example those used in the fade to black dvd when jayz is recording 99 problems, what kind of blankets are those??? that song sounds hot qualitywise... how many blankets you need to do the trick, a lot?? |

| Lives for gear | what i do, is take two regular boom stands, adjust each one a "T" shape, then i throw a big ass comforter on each one and adjust to the room, sound, etc... it's not going to isolate the vocalist, but it's cut down on outside noise and help you control any reflections, etc..

| I have the "cheap" maxwall setup - the one with 2 pieces...It works OK for cutting reflections and will cut a LITTLE outside noise if you place it like a V and put the mic in the corner - but it's not going to stop your mic from picking up a train rolling past outside or loud traffic noise. These days when I record vocals its in my walk-in closet surrounded by clothes, and I put the max walls inside there too. I still want one of those isobooth things though :( Bigup home recording............................... |

| You could buy some cheap shipping blankets at Walmart that would work better than the MaxWall... Although it won't look very pretty. |

| Lives for gear | it much much cheaper to use a walk-in close full of regular everyday clothes..... ![]() or if its blankets u want, get one dozen "moving pads" from a moving company like uhaul. they are thick and they last a lifetime. ![]()

| Moderator | The Realtraps bass traps and their minitraps can be mounted on mic stands pretty easily. You can buy about 4 of those, put them on mic stands, and then move them wherever you want. |

Listen with a short cable and then listen with the long one and see if there is a difference. We aren't listening through your speakers so we can't tell.

mics: rode nt1, baby blue bottle, sm57 i don't notice a difference, just wondering how long cable runs affect vocals if at all...guess it doesn't matter since it's a balanced XLR cable right?

| Maxx Wall A big no for the Maxx wall. I was sold it under the premise that it would stop the computer noise, and other noises very much like an iso booth. One of my worst purchases of '05 it that, it did not do what I wanted it to do and it was non-returnable. Now I use it to help isolate the studio and cut down on reflections and it works fine. This should be it's purpose/use. If a sales guy says it does otherwise, hand up and get another sales guy. Brother |

| http://signaturehardware.com/class229 How about a shower curtain rod in the corner of your room, hang packing blankets from it... put some soft stuff against the wall to kill reflections? Then you can use optional "corner-loading" to bring out the bass! Best I could come up with. Not too mobile tho. ![]()

| Foam does not work. Period. Make you some broadband absorbers and hang them on your wall and roll on. Many diy insrtuctions on the web. Or do the GIK Acoustics or Real Traps depending on how deep your pocket . They can be moved when you move.

that's cool. longer runs would increase the chance of noise getting into the signal. over maybe......50ft and up

| These are what I use and work stupendously! They're commonly referred to as "Modular Acoustic Screens" or "Noise Absorption/Acoustic Blankets" and from what I've found used primarily in industrial/manufacturing environments to control the sound of noisy machinery. When not tracking vocals you can detach them and place them up against your walls for acoustic room treatment. These are the exact same thing Rick Rubin was using in his studio captured in the Jay-Z Fade To Black DVD see here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=THVNKiFZ8w8 ![]() "Stand alone screen or join together to form noise-reducing enclosure. Features a sturdy steel frame with platform legs and a sound barrier curtain that combines a mass loaded vinyl barrier material with a gray quilted fiberglass noise absorber. Each screens forms a continuous noise barrier with adjacent screens by means of 2" Velcro strips on each curtain edge. Easy to assemble. |
