Moving to LA...

What up folk. I'm making the move from the A to the LA in March of this year to get my grind on out there. I don't really know a lot about the area and wanted to find out where the industry folk hang out at and also where are some cool spots to hang out at in general.

LA, holla...

There's an industry night at Stevies' in the Valley on either Wed. or Thurs. night. I think Interscope host. I've never gone, but my lil' chica has. She told me cats are in the spot passing out cards and whatnot. Who knows if it will still be going down in March. Hit me up then and I'll let you know.

Good luck on your move. thumbsup

I'm not trying to discourage you from movin to LA, but why would you want to leave an urban music goldmine like the ATL if that's what you do? That scene here can be really really frustrating unless you already got the hookup from there or NY.

Besides, you can dedicate way more money to gear while living there. Now that money I use to spend on gear just goes to the roof over my head and car insurance each month. It's a hard life for a G.S. (Also you'll need to import some sweet tea into this beeytch.)

To answer your question for that genre I would definitely get in good with the various DJ's and clubs, other producers, engineers, artist and studios, local music stores, the blunt man and soon you'll be sitting in front of A&R's on the regular. I'll introduce you to some crews when you get here if you'd like.

Good luck!

The music scene ain't what it used to be in "A". There are only a few more major labels with offices here and a lot of the big publishing operations have moved on, as well. Also, if you ain't on the Dirty/Crunk tip, you gets no love.... My flow is more urban/R&B and doesn't really lend itself to the the Dirty sound. Also, my other half works in the film industry and there's definitely more work in LA for her there. But your point is well taken. You can be a big fish in a small pond if you make the right connects. But since the dirty ain't really my flow, I'm on my way to Cali in March.
