I'd like to know also.

I'm kinda fed up with pointing mixer-like things on the screen with mouse. More hands-on would be nice.

i've got a mackie control. love the thing. won't ever work with a mouse again.
i think the M-Audio ProjectMix looks cool. plus it's an audio interface which the mackie lacks. i say get one and end the madness. music wasn't meant to be mixed with a mouse.

I have a baby HUI, make life much easier. I still draw in my fades in PT for more exact placement. I just wish it had digital scribble strips like the HUI, mackie control, etc.

Out of those 3 the Mackie is best designed to do the job of control. It does not have a audio side to it...but your better of with a dedicated interface anyway.. So unless you got Pro Tools the Mackie the man here.

i use the Mackie Logic Control
its great, i havent had to assign midi to anything in months. its all automatic. very dynamic.

and best of all it makes your software feel more like hardware. the screen behind the rotaries makes a world of difference. and i use the mouse about 1/3 as much as i used to. after a couple weeks of getting used to it, i became faster with the LC than i am with a mouse and kb commands.

used logic controls on eBay can be found for $600.
i got mine for $450 with a bunk 1st fader motor, which was a $105 fix and an afternoon drive to sweetwater (they fixed it in an hour). so $555 in the end, probably one of the best purchases i made in 2005.

i think $999 new is a little extreme, glad i went the 2nd hand route.

m

when i got pro tools, i was really feeling my pro control, and when i switched to nuendo, i thought i was gonna miss it and started really looking at alternatives. the makie control looked like the move (since an ID costs a bazillion dollars and the houston's just a piece of shit), but at the time there was alot of bugs in them... so i waited until my boy who works for them gave me the green light. by the time he did, i got really used to using my mouse and keyboard for all my mixing and editing... now i don't want a control surface.
some people can't stand using the mouse, i guess it depends on the user.
(and that's why i have a big ass mixer still sitting in storage )

If you are a PT user I would say get the C/8. It is a good box and integrates with pt alot better than a HUI. I have had mine for about a year an a half and I love it. I will never go back to the mouse alone.

i think the mackie is a good way to go no matter what daw your using. if just pro tools the c/8 is good but you can only have 8faders i think.. where as with he mackie you can expand it... i don't know about the us2400.. i've seen it but never personally used it.
i like the feel of a c/24. i'm about to get one for my personal home studio. when i'm at the production house i use an icon

If I buy the m audio mix i/o, will it be FULLY functional with regular (not m) pro tools if used in HUI mode? I don't really need the inputs since I already own the 002 rack. Its the same price as the MCU. I need to decide between the two. The CM Labs motor mate is what I really want, but $2600 is too much. I would get a C8, but its not widely supported outside the pro tools platform. Any guidance apreciated.

No LED readout, not touch sensative, pretty much rules it out for me.

What about the MotorMix or MotorMate?

How do they stack up against the Mackie?
