Thread Starter | I have a stupid question - BUT...... would someone please enlighten me. I've posted this a few days ago in the - so many gear...... - section, but no-one answered me. I've read alot about using DI's on synth's and keyboard's for better signals. But how do I incorporate fx boxes, eq's, compressors and stuff? Let's say I have a motif (unbalanced) - wanna send it through my eq (balanced) into DAW/AD (balanced). motif -> DI -> eq -> DAW - right??? BUT what if want to compress it before I hit the DAW? Namely ----> motif (unb) -> eq (b) -> RNC compressor (unb) -> DAW (b) HOW do I incorporate different outboard with different inputs/outputs (balanced/unbalanced)????????????????? I'm totally lost on this - please help. thanks in advance j.m |

| How about investing in a small patch bay? Bring all aux gear/FX into the bay and patch away as needed.

But my question was about DI and signal path. Either way - if I patch or not - when taking the signal to balanced level with the DI and then going thru some unbalanced equipment - then I'm destroying the effect of the DI - OR am I wrong ? ? ? How do I incorporate unbalanced equipment with balanced? Do I need lots of DI's - or am I putting the cart before the horse? I'm a little bit confused? | |

| What is your DAW? Do you have a soundcard with preamps? I'm not familiar with RNC, and do not understand why the outputs would not be balanced. If you're equipment has unbalanced outputs, I would think that you're DI would go last in your chain. For example, I have plenty of guitar pedals (all unbalanced) and run my DI last (splitting the signal off to the amplifier) or into my mixer or soundcard. |
