Thread Starter | Mic Pre/Mic compatibility question... First off, I have a Chameleon labs 7602 pre... I have been looking into purchasing a Rode K2 mic. heres my question: I know there are pres out there that are tube. My chameleon labs pre is NOT. will there be any problems or disadvantages by using a preamp that is not tube with a tube mic? forgive me if Im not wording this correctly, I have a lot to learn. Thanks in advance. |

Simple answer is NO! People do this all the time. There are many varying opinions about pairing of different mic pre's with different mics, the truth is the variations are subtle. Certain mics, ie like Shoeps and some ribbon mics are more "sensitive" to the mic amp than the usual range of condensors and dynamics. Ribbons usually due to impedance issues. Schoeps can cause issues when used on-mass with a single Phantom power source ie in a desk situation, due to their higher than normal current draw. Most everything else is a matter of personal taste.
