Thread Starter | whats better rosetta 200 or aurora 8 fw? I am a hip hop and sample based producer using cubase 5.5 on PC, i rarely record vocals. I am tracking with virtual instruments, or getting samples from a bass player or violin player at a college etc. I mix in the box and I monitor in the box. But i am in a treated room for my monitors(gen 6's). I am looking for better d/a conversion in my mixng and monitoring realm. Will better D/ A conversion help me hear better detail and improve my overall sound. what d/a converters would you suggest in your opinion. I have been pushed to get the lynx L22 pci and rosetta 200. Thats seem overkill to me. thanks peace |

The L22 should work great for you. I don't have experience with it but if the conversion quality is anywhere near the aurora quality you'll be fine. Plus its about half the price of the the rosetta.

| Lives for gear | I have a Rosetta 200. And the studio that is doing my mixing now has the Aurora 16 and though they both sound the different. I like the Rosetta 200 better, for some reason it has more of a refine sound. Hope this helps.

| The Rosetta's have a certain color to them. The Aurora's don't. Some people like the Apogee sound, some don't. It's very subjective... You can't go wrong either way though. Quality wise they are on par. |

I agree, matter fact me and my engineer had this same discussion and we both agreed that the apogee had a certain color to it a good color though and the lynx had less color. But like I said the Rosetta just has a beautiful color to it. Thats why I like it.

Thread Starter | thanks ^Yes^. BTW, what converters are you currently using I am a shame to say i am monitoring with my computer i dont have a audio interface. I am using 7.1 hi definiton realtek sound card I refuse to get some cheap subpar stuff just to get vocals in my daw when i dont record vocals. I would rather scrape the required cash 3grand or more to do the job right. And i am getting by with my current set up. But i know i should and can do better for monitoring and mixing clarity.![]() peace |

Thread Starter | My main focus is quality over quantity. Learning music (all styles and genres). Improving my production skills and work flow. Translating well in a computer based environment like in my old hardware set up. Plus, i think i spent money well on the headphones ak44, ath m50's and monitors gen6 and hr 828's, my pc and getting all my sounds from my mpc, phantom 6, triton and motif into my computer. I have a quality mic akg 414 and field recorder for sound development. I have my monitoring area treated and i use great performers bass , organ players etc for great sample material. now i want avalon 737s and to improve my clarity in daw. Yes , i like the sound of the rosetta 200 and i am leaning that way but will it work with pc, i have 1 pci, 1 fire wire, 1 pcie and 1 spidf connection on pc. peace thanks for all of you guys opinions and answers. |

Some people say the D/A and A/D conversion is not a big deal. Three years ago I upgraded to a Rosetta 200 and I definitely hear a difference. FYI, If I'm not mistaken, Apogee gear is MAC only.

The day I heard the difference between the Rosetta's and the 192's marked the moment I haven't thought about wanting to use any other brand of converters since.
