Kontakt 3 vs xv5050 (meat + potatoes)

Advancing from logic stock sounds
In my budget are kontakt 3 or xv 5050.

Not fussed about the workflow or hardware vs software arguments just searching for straight out of the box polished sounds that I can use for years to come with an emphasis on trumpets and strings

cheers

meat and potatoes screams rompler to me. i vote for the Roland however I have kontakt and couldn't live without it so there you go.

If you only want strings and horns, kontakt has some crazy good libraries so maybe you should go listen or dl some demos to try...

For the price of kontakt 3, you might as well get Native Instruments Komplete. you'll get way more sounds that way and you can just buy the Roland sounds in Kontakt format (google it).

save a couple hundred and get a fantom xr used. you can always fill it with srx cards too which is better than any soft sampler i have used so far.

I have kontakt 3 and It is a must have for me. I couldnt do without it.The sounds are great and you can edit, tweak and import so many sounds into it.

For the price of kontakt you might as well get komplete which is only like $70 more and you get like 5,000 more sounds and kontakt 4 is included.

The roland 5050 can be had for only $200-$350. Its not bad at all,but quality wise I think kontakt is better. It has over 1,000 sounds and you can put 2 srx cards into it.

I think the roland fantom xr is a must better option and I love the sounds on it. It has over 1,000 great quality sounds and you can also put in 6 srx cards. The SRX cards are dope imo.Really great sounds and you can find them used for a good price.

I have a roland fantom xr if you are looking for 1 to buy.

Went into the local music store and tried a few things out. Overall we concluded the fantom had the best package, though I have never had the chance to try a 5050, we are a concerned about the 64 polyphony in that unit.

I am hunting around for an xr unit, pm me

This really isn't a contest in my book. With Komplete 7 out you should definitely go with that over the xv5050. It's pretty much everything you could possibly need in one package.
