PITCH Question! Not a noob, but do need help!

Good day!

I have a question.

How do you guys go about pitch shifting, pitch sliding, etc.?

I mean, mixing is my thing, but somehow I find it really cumbersome when it comes to pitching for effect. You hear this a lot in HipHop and I don't necessarily mean the tape-stop effect.

When I want to do it, I usually come to a result in the end, but not as quickly and easily as it probably should be.

I don't use Pro-Tools.

Now I use Reaper (previously - Sonar, Cubase, Nuendo)

Do I need a turntable?
Is there a plug-in I don't know about?

I posted an example so you would know what I am talking about.

Philly, please don't ask why I would want to sound like that.
I need my toolkit to be complete.

Thank you for your answers, I appreciate it!

Mr. Graal.

I use the "Vari-fi" Audio suite plugin in Pro Tools. There's also Soundtoys "Speed." I hadn't got a chance to really use it yet but from the looks of it I would think its capable of some time and pitch effects pretty similar to scratching vinyl.

that's not pitch shifting. someone exported the vocal file to a program called Scratch, and then scratched it.

might be outdated calendar wise, but love it or hate it, it's reared it's head again and is used in some way shape or form (tape stop, gating, stutter) on probably more than half of the currently charting songs.

no, it's not serato. it's cut and paste with vari-fi. You could also try Sugar-Bytes

I have many clients who ask me to do this type of effects on their finished tracks. Just work to me, I don't offer my opinion

WTF? It wont let me type s t u t t e r without making an emoticon?

Thank you for answering people.

Philly, I get what you are saying, but when clients ask for it, should I tell them to f*ck off? Cause it's too hard for me to get that sound?

No way.

Vari-fi would be the tool for the job, but as I said, I am not on Protools.

Thank you for the heads-up on Sugarbytes and Soundtoys, I will check those to see if they fit my needs and workflow.

Any other suggestions?

Thanks!

If your nice on the tables, here's something I use to do alot. Bounce the vocal, put the disc on and scratch in real time back into your amp. Works very well and when it's done properly, hard to beat.
