aiight well i will have to duplicate their success...in short can u tell me what i will need to do that ?(equip...plugs etc.)...his album has the best bottom so far this year...i do not like the mixes on Kanye;s stuff and the dipset stuff is bassy but so dirty...also i noticed jeezy's vocals are not that thick and upfront like the stuff in dre's camp...they are a lil airy to be truthful...but it sits so well in the mix...i guess u have to decide if u want alot of bass or alot of vocal presence and clarity...the only 3 albums i've heard with equal balance has been lil jon's album...usher's...and 50's...im looking into getting a digi002...testing out a bunch off mics and pre's...reading this forum gives u no conclusive answer as to what u need to produce banging hip hop so i figure if i just get a few nice pieces...a rosetta...and a sub (i already have the 824's)...turntables and some break beat albums...maybe a new sound module (motif or phantom)...i should be in the ballpark...i dont wanna get too technical and stifle creativity...but if u know of some other gear that i should get to get that sound im after...by all means let me know...peace

Ready to Die Remaster...

Anyone peep this yet...

I thought the sound was on point the first time...

Does anyone know if it was actually re-masterd, or just re-released with extra content?

i bet that its remastered, albums now are much louder and more compressed than they were in the mid to late 90s so it probably has a more current sound. i doubt that it was remixed though

yes it was re mastered, yes i have the re mastered version, and yes its compressed/limited to death....so the low end sounds more rock n roll the hip hop if you know what i mean....but its still a classic thumbsup

A lot of Jill Scotts first album was recorded on the VS2480... actually, quiet a few things have been tracked on them and exported into Protools, Nuendo etc etc etc... why dont you just export the tracks... and take it from there.

Nothing fancy like multiband compression going on in the Jeezy stuff. You are hearing the low end frequency response of the SSL J9k, coupled with the onboard channel compressors, and a hefty dose of mastering compression. You would be shocked at how simple those mixes are.

i did export them to protools but i think the converters on the vs suck...i sent them out via the audio outs but i think some sound quality got lost when we transferred them in to protools cuz we went thru a mackie board first then into protools...i figure all the converting hurt the sonics...nonetheless im just gonna get a protools set up so that i can take the files right to the studio to get them mixed.

my album was mixed on a 9000j at platinum sound (wyclef's studio) and was mastered by tony dawsey at masterdisk and i still dont have that punch or clarity...i've stated in previous post that i may have been losing something with my conversions and also after reading alot of forums i realize that u cant just take the bass and drums out of the triton and expect magic...i believe i fell short on that end.

The drums for Jeezy came out of an MPC 3000, and 4000. The sample set is the same one thats been around for years in Atl. It's has evolved a bit, but mostly consists of drums sampled off the board from previous mixes back in the 2" days. The Triton is not capable of creating sounds like these. Jazze started this bangin' set back in 95'. I would probably give you a copy for the right incentive, not sure.
Basses typically come from either the SE-1, MicroKorg, or Triton on occasion, but very little processing other than EQ is done in the end to enhance what came out of the machine.
Hope this helps.

yup it helps and as soon as i do a bit more research...i will inquire as to what u think will be a resonable incentive...i knew those sounds were originated in the south cuz their production is different from ours in n.y. but i figure if i put some of that bottom on one of our type beats instead of an organ bass...i will get a cleaner bottom

I'd have to say my favorite album is Blowout Comb, digable planets. the drums and upright bass on that album sound impeccable. Second would be tribe called quest midnight marauders. that album seems to flow together so good. and yah, PE stuff is pretty damn amazing too.

i just got a bootleg of the doctor's advocate (the game's new album) & i'll spend money just to support it. it's one of the most diverse albums i've heard in years... i wasn't a huge fan of the documentary, but this album's crazy. dre didn't produce his album due to game's beef w/ 50, so this one features kanye, blaze, hi tek, storch, will.i.am, dj khalil, j.r. rotem, & swizz beats... it's an all star line up & all put out unique shit on this one... the first single "one blood" was actually produced by someone named reefa. there's a lot of tracks on there that remind me of the n.w.a./early 2pac era. i never really paid too much attention to dj khalil, but after hearing the track "da shit" on this album, i'm def gonna peep some more of his shit out.

another album that i think is a classic in every sense of the word is anghellic by tech n9ne... tech's easily the most diverse rapper i've ever heard hands down.. but whoever produces & mixes his shit is a ****in musical genius. best album i've ever bought.

also if u wanna hear a musical masterpiece as far as production, download "sleeping beauty" by tech off of his upcoming album everready. there's few songs that feel like movies rather than songs, but this is one of them. the story & the production are both crazy... one part has police knocking on the door & i actually caught myself about to answer mine one day b/c i wasnt paying attention & the effects sounded so life-like. you'd think that w/ so many diverse sound effects & vocal effects intertwined into one song.. it'd sound a little awkward, but it made this individual track unbelievable.

i havent heard the games new album, but i felt running was one of the best tracks off his last LP. But i think the nicest album ive heard mixed and still bump to this day has to be the Ghostface Supreme Clientele album.

I'll revive this thread and put down a vote for the minstrel show.

Nicolay's joints bang too and are mixed quite well on his little desktop speakers...as of his last little blurb in Remix a few months ago, he still didn't have an actual set of monitors....nuff said
