Thread Starter | dbx 160x or Distressor?
I'm thinking of buying both actually. I wanna know if tracking rappers on a dbx 160x and then using a Distressor for outboard compression will suffice. Would it be better if I just bought a Distressor and tracked vocals on it? If it matters, I'm using a U87ai into a Great River. Cheers |

the 160 is cool but the distressor can do what a 160 does and alot more.. it would probably be more worth your time and money to get a distressor...its a beast.. thumbsup

Both are cool but a smooth opto compressor might be better for TRACKING vocals. Get some gear and try and see what suits your style.

Sure you don't want an old 160VU and the Distressor ?

before you drop $$$ on the distressor pick up the 160x or 160xt. they are cheap and hard to beat for tracking rap vocals. i have all sorts of compressors (distressors/trakkers/purple/cl1b/la-2a/160/165/128/160x/xt) and the 160x is perfect for a lot of rap artists. you need something fast. i think an opto would be way too slow.(dbx vca stuff is fast). the 160x was my first compressor and i tracked with it for years. i added the other stuff for mixing and tracking female vocals/bass etc. however if i wasnt mixing i would be happy with the 160x as my only compressor(for edgy rap artists). electric ps if you are going to spend $$$ on a compressor dont sleep on the trakker either. it can do the fast vca thing but you can get all sorts of sounds through it. |

Cheers electric. Seriously considering one now. Tibbon...the dbx 160VUs are a bit expensive...seeing as I want to buy a distressor aswell. I'd want a stereo one so it fits in my rack.
