Best 808/909 samples?

anybody have a suggestion/opinion on the best quality 808/909 samples? i'm looking for unprocessed hits preferably.. with multiple samples of drums with different knob settings. i'm looking for samples of the actual units, not a softsynth (already have that).

thanks, i actually already have those and they sound pretty good (they are .wavs) i was looking more for multiple samples with the knobs (such as tune, snap, decay) in multiple positions.

I don't know if this would help or if is what your are looking for ( I know you say you didn't want sofsynth..just in case you didn't use this option), but I used to use propellerhead Rebirth wich has a emulation of a complete 808 and 909 drum machine with the knobs and I used to play around with the sound a little bit (tune, decay, etc) until I got the sound that I wanted.

Hope it helps,

I used to have both of the original machines.
I used to have a Jomox XBase 09 drum machine.
I still have a Jomox MBase 01 drum synth for bass drums only.

My personal favorite is the Novation DrumStation. It is a hardware module emulating the TR 808 and 909 machines, partly with some kind of VA synthesis, partly with samples. I bought mine when they came out, and will never sell it.
You can get them cheap on eBay.

Mind you, I'm not doing HipHop, but Techno/House, so it may be a matter of taste...

FWIW rebirth is now a FREEBIE giveaway from propellerheads - worth a try if you don't already have it.

There are 808 kits galore all over the web.
I downloaded a bunch over the years, the best one I found (no idea from who or where) was a pretty large kit with multiple samples of each sound at different tune/decay settings.

But my all time favorite 808 kit was the sampled via SP-1200 version.
808 samples straight into the SP-1200.
What the SP did to those sounds is just plain NASTY! Especially upon detuning the snares & kicks, those ringing sounds are classic.

I no longer have my SP or that infamous disk, but I have them sampled into an MPC 3000LE & they still sound great!.

Oddly enough, the Roland R-8 "808 Card" is quite good too.
I use that 808 kit most the time these days (sampled version).

Another "ok" one is the stock kit on the Boss DR-202, I sampled that one as well & it's definitely useable.

I've been considering getting a real 808 just for nostalgia.
But was also interested in that Novation rack module.

Believe me: The Novation module is MUCH better than its reputation!
You get stereo out plus six individual outs, individual distortion for each instrument and of course you can store everything, unlike the originals...
Sample that into your SP or MPC if you must and you're in drumbox heaven!

And that Jomox MBase 01 is THE real analog bass drum synthesizer. Cheap on German eBay, if you're lucky.

Try these, they're nothing more than an 808, a short jack lead and an Akai S1100.

i have the 808, 909, 303 etc all sampled multi hits in a a big file called AKAI 32 drum kits..its may be kits straight from the MPc, but regardless there are tons of different hits and they sound great.

Also, who ever made them knew their shit because they have some hits with just attack and some with just thump so layering is real simple.

Roland's giving away a detailed kit on their site.

Catch is, it's only for MV users.

Check it: http://www.rolandus.com/products/det...ProdID=MV-8000

Anyone got an MV?

While your there at the roland site, check out the JD interview - man, the cat is fire with his mad skillz but he ain't selling me on that MV. Should of given him a script first...

Then again, he is a writer/producer (and damn one of the best), not a marketing rep. JD

Did you have a Method to MIDI Dump the Samples to the SP or did you resample them? I would really appreciate a possibility to work around the input converters of the SP. The Outputs are Fire, but I guess the Inputs suck a bit on my Machine...

you can midi dump into the sp1200 with a program called alchemy for mac classic. you can download it on the yahoo emu-emulator user group "files" section.

yeah i found those. nice samples. that's exactly what i'm looking for except i'm not sure they were recorded with high end gear.. i'm being picky.

i do have a jomox mbase01, it's great, however i don't think it's a substitution for the kick on a 909/808.

you can use an old mac performa or equivalent. i n the states you can get one for $25-$50. then just use it for dumping samples. btw alchemy works with akais950 and ensoniq eps as well. i'm planning to hook my old performa up for this purpose soon..i knew i'd find a use for it one day!

the akai kit is excellent quality; i actually have it from when i owned an mpc1000. thanks for the offer though. what i am looking for is more samples of the drums at different params, ie; several samples of the snare with varying degrees of snap etc.. sort of what the hyperreal kit is except better quality.

yes thats what i'm talking about thumbsup
that link didn't work, but i found it here:
http://www.rolandus.com/forms/mv_800...nups_index.asp
unfortunately i don't have an mv-8000, so i can't use it.. any way to convert it w/o an mv 8000 you think? or...
if i rent a studio w/ a mv-8000, how hard/time consuming is it to convert the samples? i know the mv8000 has a built in cd rom, can you just burn them all as wav's at once?

What about these? I haven't listened but there are 25 kick and snare samples each.

Read the .txt files.

Yeah, that's probable. It was quite a while ago that I posted them there.

If I get time this week I'll dig them out again and repost them here.
