Mac / MPC 2500 compatibility problem

Hi people,

The problem is this: when I plug my MPC 2500 to the mac, the mac is no longer showing an image of the mpc on the left hand side of the finder window. I.e. it is no longer acknowledging that the mpc is plugged into it.

I read the chapter of the manual on loading and saving, as well as the chapter on connecting the mpc 2500 via usb to the mac, and there are no answers there for me, so I am asking you guys! (I also tried at the akai forums and they've been unable to help thus far).

More details on the problem:

When I first plugged it in, I was successfully getting the MPC 2500 image appearing in the finder window on the mac.

But on the MPC it was saying:

"For Mac OS, please eject the mounted disk on your mac, before you leave this page".

There was nothing in the 'loading', 'saving' or 'using with a computer' sections of the manual about this either, so I ran a search on this forum to see if anyone else had had this problem. Someone had indeed had this problem before, and was given this advice:

"When you connected the MPC to your mac, and the 'white icon' (the drive) pops up, it is connected. That's when that messege 'please mount...' appears. What it means is 'Please drag the 'white icon' drive into the paper bin. That way you disconnect the mpc properly. If you never did that before, that's prolly the reason why you can't load **** on the card. It's busted for the mac. Format the card."
Source - viewtopic.php?f=25&t=78715&p=716910

I followed the advice in bold above and dragged the icon of the mpc 2500 into the trash bin.

And now I am in my current predicament!

Any help is much appreciated, as there is nothing in the manual about this so far as I can see.

Cheers Gearslutz

Didn't you post this on the MPC-Forum also?

This happened to me once, turn everything off. Then turn them both back on, plug the MPC in then hit the load screen. That generally works for me, if not, try running Disk utility to see if it shows up there. You may have to eject/mount it from there.

Okay... Lets get this str8.

Finder is also the name of your desktop, and a finder window, is essentially like Windows Explorer or My Computer in Windows. On the left hand side of a finder window, ur drives, ur network shares/thumbdrives, and internal folder shortcuts all show up. I've made a mistake and have moved these off, so they go "poof" literally, and don't show up there. What I've done is..

Hit load on the MPC screen and make sure it says "hard drive" or "flash card" to mount. When it mounts, it normally goes in the leftside of the finder window AND ALSO the desktop. Drag the icon from the desktop and replace it back where it was on the finder window. If its not on the desktop... go to Finder, then go into its preferences. Then youll see a section in general that says: "Show these items on the Desktop." Make sure everything is selected and you should be good to go.

If this doesn't work, its a USB wire, USB interface (cpu), or MPC issue.
Hope this helps, PM me if u get any closer..

I posted it in the MPC 2500 forum but haven't had any luck as yet so I thought I'd try here too.

Cool man I'll give this a try this evening

Cheers

You were right on the money! Thanks for that. It just so happens that my desktop background is largely white, so the mpc image/icon (which is also white) was well camouflaged. I never noticed it sitting there looking me right in the face.

Cheers!
