I sold my MPC 3 years ago for cash reason... I was working with EXS24... The sound was ok, but the interface was just like "I don't wanna touch you!!"

I have Battery now... Sounds better (well Native Instruments...) and I find the interface really cool!! Never used the samples they give with it though.. I prefered my library every time I compared it built-in or sample library going with programs..

Hope it helps.

Battery is excellent and I actually use it in combination with my MPC. I like the MPC as a sequencer and still use it for sounds but sometimes I will throw sounds into Battery depending what I want to use. Using Battery gives you easy access to all your DAW's FX. It sound is great and it has great parameters. My favourite VST.

Battery is hot!! I still use my MPC3000 but I'm slowly transitioning to Battery. I can build a drum kit in minutes...save instantly......and do that over and over again....man its crazy! Wish I could do that with my MPC. Having said that I love the sound and feel of my MPC, which is why the transition isn't without hesitation.

Another Battery 2 user here...I also use to use EXS24 ..but incomparisson to that this is a dream...I use my own samples to build kits (along side some goodies from the 1 hitta post here) I do use the Battery percussion kits though .there's some good bongo's and stuff.

A question for some of you guys...any of you use the built in filters /compressor or other effects..if so what's your opinion of?

The problem with Battery is the sounds that come with it. Depends on what you're looking for. For real sounding, acoustic drums sets it really is not thhat good.

That said I use it all the time when I'm not using real drums.

I sometimes use the filters in battery, they ain't la creme de la creme but they do the work on your not so crucial things, or for a quick fix.

I have both Battery and Battery 2 and they are really great.
You can easly shape, tune and filter them. Everything intuitive and comfortably arranged. Audio engine seems to be exactly the same as in Kontakt, so you can expect a really good quality sound. I use it with Cubase SX3 and the automatition works fine as well.
Plus Battery comes with a very comprehensive library of great sounding samples, if you need them.
If you use Cubase with it's ability for creatin' quantization grooves from audio clips you get a monster beat machine.... Well not just a beat machine
hope it helps

I'm using Battery 2 (within PT as a RTAS)

As others have said, don't even think about using the included sounds. They suck.

The interface is adequate, but not great.

When are they going to offer an upgrade-- they have been on 2.1 for about a year?

Maybe some of you here can help me.... or maybe these are feature requests:

How do you edit pitchbend amount per sample?
Can you reverse samples on the fly? (if not, this should definitely be implemented)
How do you merge two cells?
How do you make a stereo sample mono?
How do you take out pops at the end of samples (Is there no fade function? I play w/the end point making it at zero crossing-- still there are little pops)
How to make the entire kit more or less vel sensitive?
Shortcut to delete cell? (right clicking or control clickig does not work in the RTAS environment)?

I have other gripes as well like why does the bit reduction always sounds like crap?

Like others have said, sounds are terrible, interface is OK at best. I would be willing to sell mine in a heart beat. I don't even use it. That said I don't like the MPC either, I'm an ASR-10 kind of guy, so that's probably why I would get intakt or kontakt before battery if done again.

BTW, if you do purchase don't pay more than 159.00 or you will be getting ripped.

eh bro I'm using it with Sonar not PT but some your questions are pretty easy to fix ..

Fade Function: page 79 of the english manual will tell you everything you need to know to eliminate this problem..set teh envelope with a long hold and short decay if you wanna keep the "air" around teh sample etc and avoid clicks at teh end of a sample

Vel Sensitive: go to page 61 for info on Map settings..here you can adjust different velocitys, add samples to each other [thats another question of your answered]

Pitch Bend: Again page 67 of manual will give you answers..theres a lotta functions there I'm too lazy to write

Delete Cell: hmmm dunno I right Click but I'm runnin as VSTi...for RTAS I'm not sure..try right click to select then hit SHT+ Del? alsi right click is handy for selecting wanted cell without triggering it too

Stereo Sample to Mono???: dunno...Output Module you can select the output to be either a stereo or mono out but other than that maybe do your editing in a separate wav editor first? you can run another prog, do your changes then save over or save as another name, then re-select cell with new sample?

hope that helps,...yes stock sounds suck bad, use ya own

Battery is great! I didn't even bother installing the sounds. I've got all my sounds from my MPC in Battery now and it works perfect for me.

for triggering [controlling] in Battery I use a few different things: keyboard, trigger finger, SP505 but I gotta say the best way I drop drums is using my SPD11 with kick trigger pedal [see pic]...I've found keyboards are great for velocity stuff like long samples, stabs & mapped instruments, But the SDP11 for drums is great ...still velocity sensitive.... keyboards for me feel to long in the throw to get "in the pocket" for drums, so IMO the best for Battery would be a combo of MPC styled pads for ya drums and a MIDI keyboard for softer sample based work..I have a video of my SPD11 triggering samples outta battery..if only I can figure out how to convert it down from 70M to about 4M I'll put it up...pce

Battery is great. Oh... somebody said that already... I love it for what it is.

But...

After using Fruity Loops Studio there's really no going back for me. Being able to stretch, filter, shape, change loop points, pitch and on and on and on is great. All of the editing is right there on a single panel that appears whenever you select a sample on a track. Very easy and very powerful.

Imagine...

1. Loading all of your MPC samples by simply putting them on your hard disk and pointing FL to the directories. Stero, mono, 16-bit, 24-bit whatever. Thousands of samples a mouse click away without ever having to open an "import" window or the like. All laid out in the exact same directory structure that they exist on your hard disk in a nested panel. Audition? Click. Use? Drag and drop.

2. Composing beats on a multitrack grid with unlimited patterns. Layering samples by adding (for instance) 3 kick drums to three different tracks with full control over everything on each sample. It also has a nice patter swing adjustment. Not to mention visually sliding notes around with the mouse to change the feel of a pattern.

3. Using VST and DX plugins during composition saves daw mucho cpu later. Get the sounds you want during composition and render to audio files. A little cpu hungry stereo Waves Linear EQ perhaps?

4. Exporting individual *.wav files (or the entire LR mix) for importing into whatever daw you choose or run it in the daw and just render the tracks, or not. No A/D woes. I let SX's audio engine render FL audio as it sounds a tad better to me than FL's internal rendering during stand-alone mode.

Fruity Loops is simply unreal... you have to use it for a while to understand.

Battery? I hardly use it anymore. I recommend FL to all of my hip-hop clients. This is the new MPC IMHO... or at least it should be. Before you buy Battery take a closer look at Fruity Loops studio. You won't be sorry.

battery's sound quality is excellent.

I did some exporting from reason's redrum and battery with the same samples, and made sure there was no processing, and volumes were the same.

There was definetly a difference........even to my ears! LOL

How do you edit pitchbend amount per sample?

modulation source: pitchbend
destination: tune
set amount: -100 +100

Can you reverse samples on the fly? (if not, this should definitely be implemented)

that´s what the "reverse" button is for.

How do you merge two cells?
"merging" like in "bouncing"? that wouldn´t make any sense, since all the individual settings and modulations (tune, envelopes, etc...) would be lost. other than that, what do you need it for?

How do you make a stereo sample mono?
use a wave-editor

How do you take out pops at the end of samples (Is there no fade function? I play w/the end point making it at zero crossing-- still there are little pops)
Never had such problems. Might be your sequencer/cpu usage.

How to make the entire kit more or less vel sensitive?
select the cells you want to edit, choose the modulation source on one of them, turn the velocity sensitivity down.

read the manual thumbsup

Yeah, I'm keeping it in the box for a lot of stuff.... I still have the Triton, TR rack, Motif, ASR, Proteus, Roland JV sound modules, Technics 1200's, etc.. But, most of it is soft synths and real instruments (guitars, bass, etc).

I have in the past, but not right now... I haven't turned the MPC on in a while. I've actually had it sitting on it's side turned off for a couple months now. I'll bring it back to life at the new studio.

i can't comment specifically on Battery, but i give high marks to native instruments as a whole on sound quality. i would probably rate them at the top for overall sound quality. but that's for soft-synths. battery might be something different.

but i trust native instruments as a brand.

cheers halfguard, was a bit half assed but considering I was running the SDP11 MIDI out > Korg X5 MIDI Thru port > soundcard..surprisingly latency isn't an issue & the feel doesn't get lost and mind you I'm not running anything fancy at all...just a PC with a M-Audio 2496 card, but I was too lazy to unplug teh X5 from the MIDI chain.....I got a coupla other better videos done with a line into teh camcorder so ya don't hear all the bangin on teh rubber pads which can get loud if ya really poundin..I'll post em up next time
