Metallic Bkg and Leads Revisit

Original forum last year some time
Metallic Vocal Sound (esp Backgrounds)

It's ALL over this song. And a very good effort by Fantasia. She sounded great on this song.

YouTube - Fantasia - Even Angels (New Single)

Now that I revisit this, Rodney and LeShawn probably were the first I ever heard this sound. it's like the tighest flanger in the world. Definitely some phasing going on. Nice thick bottom end on the vocals. Another song that uses it a lot, or it shows up a lot.

You'll hear what I'm talking about when the song builds into the hook. Or maybe it is the hook, yeah it's the hook.

Just to tell why I'm revisiting, I'm basically starting from square one with it all. I'm not killing the charts or getting placements, so I'm combing forums and working a 9 to 5. Anyway, when looking at a future producers forum post a guy said he hard tunes bkg's or maybe he said all vox, and mixes that in with original vocals.

So what I did was copied it, mixed in auto tune pretty low on the buss, and widened the autotune track with a M/S (mid side) plugin, and flipped the PHASE of the left or right channel. And oh boy, was that an interesting sound, that was actually still mono compatible (as if that even matters anymore really).

Figured someone would gain from my trials and failures, since I'm not really.
