Bass heavy song/without being muddy or to bassy

Question to the engineers on the board, where do u or orientate if u want a bass heavy song, the focal point should be on the rythm in this case Kick. How do u make it well presented without getting to muddy. Keeping the present of the low range without killing the rest with it.

Thanks

assuming you have a good monitoring setup->if not you won't be able to tell how much bass to leave in / take out

AND

assuming you chose good sounds (which you can only master with practice)

a good practical tip:

1. create and save a filter that cuts everything below 100hz. and paste it onto all of your tracks except your kick and bass. this will ensure that they are the only people invited to the "low-end" party if-you-will.

2. from there, find a eq analyzer to see which frequency(ies) your kick and bass are taking up and boost/cut the opposite. For example, if you have an 808-type kick which is down in the 60-80hz range and your bass is in 100-120hz range then cut 60-80hz in your bass track and 100-120hz in your kick track.

3. experiment with different eq's and you should be good.

4. calm down lol

dude you have to hear the track in a balanced room with proper monitors which you are familiar (how they translate) and then know how to use eq and compression on your individual tracks... distortion can help a kick cut through in the high frequencies too.. try multing the kick and high passing the mult adding distortion to it... or simply try parallel compressing the kick and adjusting the attack of the multed kick to let the attack (pop) and come through.. there are also other ways to generate bass with plugins.. for instance Rbass does this by adding low frequency harmonics.. there is no easy answer . Oh yeah!! Leave headroom!
