dont care if he is a homo but the best part was when the phone rings and it almost sounds as if it is in sync with the rest.

Kid Beyond definetly knows his shit!
Thats the difference between the ability to drop a needle into the groove and the actual art of grooving!

The reason i asked is because nothing that the dude in this video does is tight in the classic sense of the word at least in my book.
I absolutely appreciate a dopey beat but this stuff is simply not happening.
Have you checked the Kid Beyond clip?
Thats what i call tight.

peace

You are right. On top of that, I would find it boring, to stop the process and to press ten buttons to be able to record the snare after the kick, etc...and like in the "kid beyond"-video, there are more comfortable ways to do it thumbsup

I almost felt pity watching the poor guy doing a million buttonpushes to slice up that one bar phrase.
Things like Recycle or the V-Synth are way more efficient for the job.
And after that you can do so much more to the slices compared to the limited feature set of a MPC 2000.

I may on occasion talk about some of the products I am a dealer for in my posts.. and that's OK! I sell them because I like them. Not vice versa. It's more fun to talk about things you know and love, then things you don't.

explain "kinda cheesy", please. I don´t find anything cheesy about a guy, who can drop a complete beats-demo in 20 mins...plus, he is not pretending, he´s "somebody"... for me, "being real" has many defintions. guys like him are one of those; at least in my book.

I have the biggest respect for anybody who has balls big enough to step up on a stage in front of a crowd with nothing but a mic and rock the house like Kid Beyond does.
I mean-it might not be your style of music but you cant deny that this dude is a friggin genius the way he set up his rig and the sheer musical quality of the output that he creates on the fly is indisputable.

The fluctuations in perception among people continues to amaze me.........

I liked dominos beat vid much better, seemed to have more soul. While is it unique that kid beyond can beat box, he isn't much different than doug e fresh, the human beat box, and others (maybe add a little bobby mcferrin). Very unique though, good luck to the guy.

On the button pushes, by all means, nobody should stay in the dark ages, but if it is "required" to push a lot of buttons to get a signature sound, then I'd do it. The MPC is like a hammond organ, it really depends on who is driving, if you get one of the greats, it becomes a musical beast. Yes agreed, use recycle to chop up the beat, but put it back into the MPC to sequence, adding a key soul element that cannot be seen but only felt.

I believe in adding the best of the old and the new into one synergy, no doubt the MPC is on the legends list, so I still use it to seq (not to chop) but I track into Pro Tools, use plug ins, use soft syths, etc.

Usually (not all the time) album sales will tell the story so I guess to each his own really, there is no right way to bring the funk.

That asian cat on the keyboard is priceless. I seen that awhile ago and lost the link, appreciate the reup of it Tony.

As for the beat vids, Domino and Kev got soul fa'sure. Dominos controbutions to Souls and Heiro are undeniable. Kev is like PR jr. I'm not a fan of alota his work though. When he nails it though, he nails it.

What i'm wondering is, where is the boom-bap sh*t? Me and my associates must be the last of a dying breed.. sad type
