Mixing Question!??

Hello so im having this little problem.
My mixes in my studio sound good not perfect because i dont have any acoustic treatment since im moving soon..

I have mixed lots of songs for my clients and most of them sound alittle bit dark when i listen to them somewhere else.

so my monitors have this Hi filter -2db 0db and +2db button.

What im goind to do is set it to -2db on the highs so that when im mixing i have to push the highs more that way they are going to sound good everywhere else.

Because the mixes sound really good is just the highs where i need dat boost so by doing that -2db on the highs of the monitors will make me push them a lil more.

If you think is not right let me know lo.

If you have no treatment you shouldn't be mixing....wait.....let me say that again.....IF YOU HAVE NO TREATMENT YOU SHOULDN'T BE MIXING. Without treatment you are trying to make accurate decisions after hearing music thru a "room" filter. Tweaking your monitors, you are attempting to band-aid something that needs to be corrected the right way. Those high filters aren't meant to fix problems...some people prefer their speakers brighter than others. I'm guessing you aren't using a reference track either?

1/3 Environment (no treatment)
1/3 Engineer
1/3 Equipment
= your mix

Wait till you move and set up correctly or you will be re-mixing and re-mixing and eventually bang a hole in the wall with your forehead out of frustration. Guess how much money i would want back if you tried mixing my track without any treatment? All of it? I think so!

If your mixes don't translate well, you shouldn't be charging money to clients. Wait til you get your new space, get some treatment in there, work on your skills and then charge your clients once you're fully ready.

Adjusting the hi trims may help a little. If you are moving soon, you can still do some acoustic treatment. You can make standard rigid fiberglass absorbers and basstraps that can be totally portable. The acoustic treatment will help more than anything else.

I don't really agree with the advice that you shouldn't mix until your room is treated. Unless you have an unlimited budget, and you can build a mix room from scratch. I think monitoring at low volumes and using a reference track will help out a bit.
