No R8brain doesn't dither.. it does some basics though like... truncating and normalizing. It includes different SRC filter options but don't worry about them. Just set the filters to ultra-steep mode and to minimum phase for the best result. Its the best SRC out there. Doesn't get any better..

Rule is...

Dither first before R8brain, then you can truncate and SRC in R8brain last.

Ok thanks for letting me know.

So steps:

Dither from 24 to 16 with Ozone for example. Then use R8brain to SRC.

Is that what's recommended?

I think you want to run something that exclusively dithers and then run r8brain for downsampling.

Kind of.. Dither doesn't take you down in bitrate. That's what truncating does. Dither just adds random noise which gets rid of the quantization noise caused by digital. You must dither before you truncate or else errors will occor in the truncation process. These errors create and unnatural distortion called quantization distortion.

So..

Dither first... which adds random noise allowing proper truncation
Truncate next... which reduces the bitrate by reducing the waveform
SRC... which resamples and anti-aliases providing the final output format

Ok great, Thanks a lot for the info, it'll help me a lot!

I care about audio quality and I want to get the best quality I can and not lose any in the process.
