You said you're not an engineer, yet you're asking how to be one.

If it was so simple it could be explained on a bulletin board, do you think some of us would spend years developing our craft?

Fwiw, if you think YouTube is acceptable quality to rap over, you need to do a lot of critical listening and experimenting until you CSM hear how degraded the audio is. There isn't a lot you can do to improve this, so unless you get some better quality instrumentals, what you do isn't really going to make an improvement . Compress your vocals a bit and balance them with the track. Don't damage things further.

If you're a bit more serious, team up with someone who can handle the engineering/production side, get a semi decent mic and interface, and go from there.

Not trying to discourage you, but without decent ingredients, you're never going to be able to cook a great meal, even on the worlds best kitchen.

You need the hip hop garageband with the hip hop 32channel() eq that comes with the hip hop polow da don loops before you can mix real hip hop

and you won't get anywhere without hiphop youtube. Your built in mic needs to be a hip hop build, hip hoppin, and a hip hop mic. Do you even have any hip hop preamps?

Unusable instrumentals maybe.

But like I said, if your intention isn't to be an engineer, then just try to do the minimum possible.

shows how much time I spend on youtube....the moronic comments tend to drive me away.

Any compressed audio file format will sound like it's underwater once it's converted back to an MP3 though - the OP is exporting from garageband, which defaults to MP3 export.

Still, thanks for the heads up.

Choose "Show Master Track". Use the information thingy to show the effects and play around with the compressor settings. There is only one AU plugin you can place on the Master Track effects unfortunately, try AUPeakLimiter or AUMultiBandCompressor and some such.

GarageBand only exports to mp3 if you check the compress box and select mp3. If not it exports to either 16 bit or 24 bit aiff files depending on what you set in the preferences
