Waves Vocal Chain HELP!

hey GearSlutz im using waves renansiance bundle to mix my vocals.....im using

-audio technica 2020

-tapco 220 mixer RCA ti Line in on soundblaster x-fi

i record rap/hiphop on cool edit pro and i record my vocals with 4 tracks

-track 1: lead verese
-track 2: overdub whole verese @ -6db
-track 3: overdub multies & punchlines @ -9 db
-track 4: adlibs @ -3 to -12 db

plugin go like so

1st waves r-de-ess (male de-ess wide)
2nd waves r-eq 2 (hipass @ 80-160hz & hishelf @16k with 4db boost to add air
3rd waves r-vox (gate @ -42 comp @ -24 Gain @ -9)

then with the eq on the tracks of cool edit pro it goes as is

3 db cut @ 250-320hz
2 db boost @ 2k
4 db boost @ 4k

now i was wondering what your guys thoughts would be on this and
what you would reccomond and im also wondering some standards for recording rap

You'd probably have to post up before and after examples of the source material before anyone can really give a useful opinion on what you are asking.

I think you should not use pirated software, and should use the search function.

You never know...he may have actually spent the big bucks on it!

If so

Your vocal chain looks fine to me, but has others have said, if you can post a before/after sample it would be very helpful to hear if you got the right settings or not.

Have you tried Vcomp as well? This is what a friend of mine use extensively on his mixes and it makes the voice stand out from the background in a big way (if used properly of course!)

Reminds me of a thread where OP was like "I like to boost my kicks 15db at 47hz and 18db at 66hz, how do you like my mixing strategy?" or something. Gotta post some examples OP.

try putting your comp first, if you eq first and eq allot, the comp will just mash what you eq'ed to some degree.

the first thing you need to learn bro is there is no "standard" every voice is different + every production is different

1. You want to tame the bad things
- Cut frequencies?
- De-ess?
- De-noise
- other edits
2. Enhance the good things
- Boost frequencies?
- Compress?
- Tape/Analog Saturation?
3. "Fit" it in the mix
- Reverb?
- Delay?
- Autotune/Other FX?

You have to ask yourself these questions every time. It will never be the same everytime because the beat you're trying to fit the voice into won't be the same everytime...
