How are the Pro Tools 8 Instruments?

I already have logic's sounds and they are pretty good.
i was wondering if Pro Tool's sounds were even better.
I love playing with Orchestra sounds and synth leads and pads.
Thanks!

Don't know but I wouldn't advise switching DAWs just for the stock sounds. (Unless you realLE digi them). Do you have any external vsts? Some of the best modules make the stock sounds of some daws seem punny in comparison, but a few are worth their weight in goldbaby.

They are ok in a pinch, but not my first choice at all.
However,I do like the original A.I.R. instruments such as Velvet and Strike which I use extensively.

mmm, I'd partially disagree.

Not my choice for orchestral things (Kontakt is much better IME) but vacuum is great, minigrand very useable and Xpand is good for bread and butter - a virtual 1080 if you like.

Good analysis! Vacuum surprised me at how good it sounds. Mini grand is decent for writing, although so far I've substituted it with Ivory in finished work.

Haven't fully explored Xpand yet.

Structure FREE - Worthless unless you just want to load a patch created by someone else. Virtually zero tweakability. All versions are worthless unless you get Structure FULL.

Boom - Again worthless unless you just want to use the stock sounds it comes with. The inability to load your own drum samples renders it virtually useless IMO.

Vacum - Cool monophonic synth. Interface is a bit ghastly, but if you know how to program a synth lots of cool stuff can be had with it.

Mini Grand - Decent Piano for free. Not the best by far, but a useable Piano.

Xpand 2 - Good bread & butter rompler/synth.. Lots of useable stock sounds in there.

DB-33 - For me, the best of the bunch. Cool gritty sounding Organ with the ability to use the Leslie effect as a standalone plugin. Great to route other sounds through.

All the AIR instruments available to purchase are quite good. The only one I haven't used is Strike.

Hope that helps.

I've found structure free pretty handy this last week or 2, without it I'd have been stuffed - a guy needed to use a load of his logic sounds. Bought Kontakt since though, haven't had to install it yet.

The mini-grand is more than ok. It's brilliantly simple, which is a good start, and providing you play it and not ones imaginary piano, it sounds fecking great. I've used dozens of virtual pianos, and this blows loads of them out the water. It just has a big sound, with loads of depth. I dunno what it's doing, but it has that natural harmonic interaction (or the illusion of it), which so few others have. It's not accurate - it's probably one of the least accurate - but in the context of a mix, it's all I'd ever need. Even for stripped back, vocal/piano stuff I'll be tempted to use it.

Xpand has plenty of usable stuff as well. Again, perhaps not sounds to build a song or a mix around, but certainly things I'd use, things I have used.

Aint tried anything else yet. I swear I had velvet on my system, but it disappeared the same night I woke up naked in the ABC in Glasgow.

Decent/functional bread and butter stuff and salt and pepper depending your expectations.I don't think it touches Logic out of the box but there's enough if you are creative.
