Powerful Kicks!

hi mates,

i think evil pimp got one of the best productions for hard kicks!

i use software and wanted to ask what i need (where to get) such powerful kicks and if you got some hints how to adjust the compressor, eq for making them for example sound like this

YouTube - Say Something

YouTube - Time Aint On My Side

and also check out the LUDA snare, how did he make it so powerful?

thanks manes!

An analog drum synth, samples and lot's of good analog processing gear. This is the kind of sound I've never heard anyone get with just software.

I agree!

Software compression and eq is not going to acheive this!

invest in a hardware eq and compressor.

EM Peq/Chandler Tone Control
Distressor

Comes to mind.

thanks mates, but i guess opinions are still 50:50 cause here many people say that software can also achieve this. hmmmm gotta have to try it out somehow.

Akai Sampler vs. FL or Reason

Hmmmm....maybe I'm missing something but those drums don't sound like anything special.

DJ Khalil has waaaay harder drums than this and he uses Reason so it can be done. It's all about who's behind the board.

There´s absolutely nothing special about those kicks at all. Sounds very mediocre to me.

Replicate it if you think so. These kick drums are among the best I've ever heard.

Love how dude has to sound all hard to compensate for his piano playing..

"Yeah nigga, we musicians nigga..." whatever man. You overcompensating.

it's ok folx, you don't have to let us know how hard you are. Play them keys. We understand. LOL

Kick drum sounds like anything else. Nothing new.

If you don't have good monitoring and a good room, you can't hear the impact of the kick you're making. I dunno about gear, I think it's just having an accurate listening environment.

Is this some kind of advertisement for Evil Pimp or whatever?

That is what it sounds like to me, and if you want my honest opinion the songs in the video's you linked to are not anything special, in fact I would even say it sounds like the songs are about 8 years too late, the beats sound like early 2000's southern beats, a la 3-6 Mafia, Dirty Boys, etc.

As for you question I couldn't really hear the kicks with the speakers I'm listening on, but if I was to judge by the rest of sounds in the beat the kicks are nothing special.

i think i believe this too. does this also mean that once those sounds are recorded to computer with a transparent, high-end sound card that they retain most of their qualities? for the op, try sourcing libraries that were made this way(and try to use a high-end sound card also).

Sure, but the sound comes from mixing OTB with a lot of outboard and a console. Using better drum samples ITB can only take you some of the way. And I've never heard a sample library that sounds like this stock.

I agree, the music sucks. But the sound is good. I think the sound was way better in the 90s anyway, whatever...

LMAO at the pathetic attempt to categorise a simple piano riff as anything other than what it really is.
That video is just proof how good analog gear and bouncing to tape can make any old shitty fruityloop beats sound ok. fuuck

hardware this processor that, boooooooooooo

man it starts with the samples that are used. The better your sample (drum) is the better your outcome. You cant expect some kick to be heavy or strong if you have a weak or poorly cut sample.

theres always software out there that can help you achieve this and for some reason eq is coming to mind

START OFF WITH GOOD KITS THO, Simple as that

<---surprised PhillySoulman likes Ravity for drums, to be honest.

I demo'd it awhile back & didn't think it was up to much, at least not the drums-only one.

Its not my only choice.

However,it works for me.

These days,I usually record live rhythm.
Im more into FEEL than boring ass rigidity, except for clients who want boring ass "beats".

Philly do you have any links to any of your music. I'm extremely curious. Perhaps... snippets?
