I'm about to record a drummer to make loops/samples

Next week I have a guy coming over with 2 nice drum kits. Noble and Cooley and a nice Tama.

What snares should I try to get though?

I'm actually listening to The Roots "Do You Want More!!!??!" Track 4 "Mellow My Man' and the snare is pretty cool. Any recommendations for a nice high snare with a lot of pop?

Thanks.

Also, if anyone else has any thoughts/tips, let me have em!

try to capture your sound with a SM57 ("most common snare mic"). but you can also try a condenser one but be carefull of dynamic range, cause condensers dont got alot of "headroom". maybe you try to miking with two mics. One on bottom of the snare and one on the top. Try to use the mic like a flashlight and try to capture the point you like with your ears. maybe this helps you. i think the roots also eqaulized it and got a very good room for recording this. greets chester
