Smile Zaytoven's kick drum

I have lately been a fan of Zaytoven's production, but how does he get those kicks hittin so low and still sounding good? Maybe some different order harmonics in the compression or somethin. I don't know? Here is a few examples:

YouTube - Gucci Mane - Hold Dat Thought
YouTube - TRAP OR DIE II

U'd be surpised that it could be something as simple as layering a few good kicks together. HONESTLY i think thats what it is.

Looks like Reason, and a perhaps a Fantom. I seen the files for some of the Gucci songs.

sounds like triggering a sine wave with the kick to me...

I'd start with good bass trapping

Try the Tape 808's from Goldbaby. He's got some good, long, distorted ones inthere, put 'em in Kontakt, tune 'em and bang away.

Here ya go

Zay was at the studio here and left a few sessions of beats he sold to local artists. I, doing what any good hip-hopper would do, chopped up his drums and saved them. Don't know if they're the same as the ones in the above songs, but they're definitely Zay's.

What I can tell you about them is that they're straight off his MPC2000xl. All the 'Drops' are just laid out on the pads and played as a bass. No additional kicks on top of those. They're pretty choppy and intentionally distorted (using the filters in the MPC). These are really just run of the mill 808 samples at the end of the day.

your archive isn't working fam.

YouTube - RAW REPORT PRESENTS - Zaytoven: THE NEW BASEMENT

here's a video of him doing his thing: 2000xl, korg m3, motif rack, fantom rack. JT talks about a "processor" for the mpc in the video which could be anything all it means is that he's running them through something. it could be just a preamp haha

Damn he's talentedthumbsup You can tell right the way when you hear zay's beat IMO. Very distinctive style Fantom/motif seem to be a must for every dirty south "super" producer though

Yeah I know he definitely isn't one either, it seems this new Usher single is his first step into the mainstream so super producer is a real stretch...

I agree! When i think super producer, i think of a person as a contributing factor to all aspect of the track. Super Producers do this in and out on mainstream hits. I don't know exactly what he contributed to the record but like MYAMS touched on this is his first known mention in the world of mainstream.

And as you know Usher's new single "Papers" is actually from Gorrila Zoe's cd "Don't Feed The Animals". The song was called "So Sick". I guess they are reusing beats like Will I Am "Impatient" and Estelle "American Boy"

Thanks you for the Z drums upload.

I mixed this set along with the other 2 Zaytoven-esque kits floating around online.

I got my kits loaded and ready for this jeezy vs gucci beat tape im doing.

I dig the tape 808 kit, redjack kit, and the modernbeats 808s still have the best kicks imo...

I mean an 808 can only be but so different.

I dig coming up with my own snare/blends though.

Utter trash is absolutely right. I noticed that the average person who enjoys this guy's music is uneducated and ignorant as well.

its just silly club music. I dont think its fair to generalize his entire fan base like that. especially sinces hes becoming the #1 hottest rapper in the game right now. Its not something i listen to im my house but when the beat comes on in the club im dancing to it *kanye shrug*

OK let me brake it down for you real quick. You said i could do much better than Zay, Gucci and OJ stuff with a Fantom or a Motif. I said i don't need to. Cuz weather you like it or not they're(dirty south artists) making A LOT money with that shit right now WITHOUT being very original. Who cares if you can innovate like danja when you only need a couple of chords and a catchy hook to become a #1 chart topper?
