Soft Synths for Logic (Audio Units)

I was wondering what people are using for softsynths for Logic... I'm building a second studio and was planning on running Logic Pro there. Any ideas on what programs I should pick up.

LogicPro 7 +

NI Battery2
(maybe also check fxpansion guru)

NI Kontakt2 (use it for making own samples & spec. fx-mangling)

Spectrasonics Trilogy !!! a must have for bass...

maybe:
(Spectrasonics Atmosphere ...nice for pads&atmos)
(Spectrasonics StylusRMX ....nice for superquick drumloops/backings etc.....+usefull perc-loops...nice tweaking)

Arturia MinimoogV
Arturia 2600V
Gmedia ImpOscar
Gmedia Mtron (must have!)
Korg Legacy Collection (must have!)

this will get you quite far soundwise......add to taste

did forget something??
oh yeah.......hardware is better ! ....

(may I recommend the roland V-synth,moog voyager,elektron machinedrum & monomachine and a MS-20)

*aarrrrgh..I need more money*

good luck, tom

Hey Tomdarude,

Can that new drum machine instrument that comes with Logic 7 take the place of Battery or is Battery that much better? What are the differences?

Cool... Thanks!

I've got Battery2, Kontakt2, 2600V, Korg Legacy and impOSCAR in this computer.. I'm definitely getting those for the new studio... I've been meaning to try a couple of those others like Trilogy for a while.

tony, check kvr-vst.com they pretty much can tell you everything about 99% of software. also checkout reaktor, it takes a little work but its worth it. also, you will have access to all the user creations.

Trilogy !!! it´s so awesome... couldn´t do hiphop tracks without it...also cool to create a nice lead/bass sound from the get go... has some nice basic waveforms to start from..

legacy collection also has the ms20 filtersection as a seperate fx-plugin...cool for tweaking.... (not really an analog ms20 filter, but cool on it´s own way..) thumbsup thumbsup

uuh....no way !! ya mean ultrabeat, right ??

tried it a few times...really tried to like it.....arrrrghhhhh ....hate it, sorry!
first of all it´s more of a drum/perc-synth.....though one oscillator is able to load a sample.....and than has 1001 ways to tweak it.....it´s just so unintuitive!
didn´t really get into the patter sequencer also.....for me ...it´s just to complicated!
dunno.....maybe I´m to dumb.
Battery is just so easy to load up different drumsounds & layer them....(that´s what most of the hiphop guys do anyway, isn`t it?...it´s all about layering) and tweak them right.

In my opinion applemagic failt BIG TIME on the "drums"-part of Logic. if it had something like ableton live´s "impulse"....a really QUICK and simple drum sampler and some nice internal MIDI-FX (a real good STEP-SEQ !!, arpeggiator, something like korg karma....etc.) it would be 10times more usefull (imagine doubleclicking on an impulse-slot and the sound opens in logic´s audioeditor.....woooooooho)
and for the sake of it finally had some real bangin stock swing templates from a MPC 3000. it´s all possible they just don´t do it right.... sorry for the rant

btw. if your looking for the ultimate hardcore eurotrance kick.....Ultrabeat, no doubt !!!!

nah, i don't really like Ultrabeat either. It looks like it has a lot of potential, but it also looks like a little more than i need to put down some drums. Maybe i need to mess with it more, but i wasn't really feelin it too much.

Other than that, back to the original poster's question...I find that the stuff that comes with Logic is really cool. You might want to give it a go before you start buying software, if nothing more that to determine what more you need/what Logic lacks. I find that as for my software instrument needs go, Logic's stock synths with a little beefing up do the trick. But i do alot of my stuff with hardware, and i still say hardware can't be beat.
