There is no "best"per se.
They all have their merits and applications.
"Best" is how you make it work for you.

Thank god I'm not a co-moderator, because these posts would get deleted, on the simple basis of improper English. This isn't msn or text message chatting.

I wanna get something like a Nord rack and make a TON of custom sounds, but right now the speed & clarity of using software cant be beaten. Or i may just get something with a VST editor like the new fantom rack.

any of the motif/fantom/m3 types will give you good basic sounds but some have better individual sections than others. for example, a lot of people think that the fantom has the best horns of the 3, etc etc

for me i have had a fantom and a motif in the past. sold both and used only reason for a while. bought the motif again recently because i like to do some things without all the computers on and taking over my life hahaha. if i was buying one right now i'd either get an m3 or a motif es. IMO the xs isn't much better than the es which can be had for realll cheap these days (that's why i bought it again recently).

Y'all gonna think I'm crazy, but even though most people didn't get this box, I used the s**t out of the MC-303 groovebox. great sounds, and although everyone saw it as a preset machine, I just used the user area and made a ton of beats with that back in the day.

I've used the Triton, and Reason (or as hip hop cats call it, "Reasons") for it seems like forever, but I still miss that groovebox. I sometimes buy one for like $125 used, and then sell it back for the same price when I get bored. For $125 it's a damn good deal.

Next time you do that, just put it in the closet or take it to somebody else's house and just pick it up when you miss it... This way, you don't have to keep blowing $125.

Yeah I know, sometimes funny and something frustrating, and last but not least, sometimes plain dumb, and I'm editing my mistake, happy now?

I have to agree with Philly here. It's what works best for you. The best "value" I'm finding lately is in re-programming/editing the patches on my older modules. To answer your question... I've always preferred the Roland line of synths.

I keep telling people, the last keyboard you will ever buy

I've had 45 synths and 200 tracks running at same time with still more room to go!

Open Labs was best money I ever spent plus I can Mimick any Midi Synth

I prefer the Motif XS8 out of the three popular ones (M3, Fantom, Motif)

You're out of your mind. It is good, but doesn't "crush" these.

I dont have a favorite.
I have a large pallette of sounds available for all genres of music.
However, the Yamaha Motif is a good all arounder and for softsynth, its Digis Xpand 2.
