Live Guitars and Basses in Hip Hop/R&B

For those of you who do use live instruments, what's your signal chain for recording guitars and basses.

In fact, I'd also be interested in which axes you feel are better suited for this genre. Fender Strat and Jazz or P-Bass? What about a hollowbody Gretsch or a Ken Smith exotic wood 6 string for bass?

Just curious as to what's commonly used in R&B/Hip Hop.

I usually just run basses and GTRs direct into the U5's. Don't really know alot about GTR and bass makers, as far as who's best. I just track which ever a musician has that comes through the door.

Good thread idea...I'd defiantly like to hear some suggestions on what people are using.

If the Gretch and the Smith are lyin around and they sound cool I'll try it - However - Can't nobody mess with Leo Fender! Strats, P's, J's, Stingrays.. S'all good.

Run that through a cool Di MP2NV, TD100, Radial, 1272 (whatever's lyin around)and you're golden. If you have an amp you might as well mic that thing up too. Experiment, I was shocked when I ran a P through an acoustic PA and put an R-84 on it! Whum WhaWhump Wha Wha Whump.
