stereo vs mono effects

Sup folks. Ive been playing around(my training time ) with effects lately trying to see what new things I can made work. Just wanted to see what others have been doing, if you don't mind. Ive heard some folks say they use mono sends/stereo returns, and some say mono sends/mono returns.
Whats have you found that works good on what?

mono/stereo or mono/mono on lead vox? BG vox? hook? GTR? drums? etc, etc
?using aux sends/returns
or input channel for returns
? channel inserts for both
? direct outs
? EQing the returns
?combo of stereo and mono EFX

I use mono tracking for about everything except keys and samples. I like them in stereo. To get a really strong center, it helps to have a mono kick and snare, but with percussion and hats you can go either way. I usually go stereo w/ tamborines and shakers. I just go by what feels right. With vocals, I use mono tracks to make stereo sounds a lot. My compressor runs in mono, but delays and reverbs work real nice in stereo. You will really hear the diference when you A/B thse effects between mono and stereo. Thats really how I go about it, I dont have any rules, except I need the middlel to be clear, and very strong.

I like bass in mono (strong center theory again). Guitars are niced tracked mono and then run through stereo filters.
