Good Reads?

I'm currently looking for some articles/books/ebooks to read, that seems to be the most helpful way for me to improve and I'm looking for the most essential reads because I'm pretty descent for an amatuer mixer...actually I could hear alot of my stuff that I've mixed and mastered on the radio, I just know that I have a long way to go and need more KNOWLEDGE lol, I was hoping there'd be some sticky's to read but there's too much stuff and it'd be crazy trying to read every thread just to scan through for info that might not even pertain to me :(. Also I put it in the hip-hop section because that's my main focus. so anything that could generally help me in mixing and mastering is great, just as long as it still pertains to mixing and mastering for hip-hop. THANKS EVERYONE IN ADVANCEE

Bob Katz' "Mastering Audio" is a great book that covers a wide range of subjects concerning mastering and mixing. I'm sure I will not be the only one suggesting you this book.

Behind the Glass... Howard Massey
The Art of Mixing (I forget the author...very cheesy..but good stuff)

As far as specifically pertaining to mixing and mastering hiphop...there's not much out there...but you should be able to translate these ideas into any genre. Pop over to my forum if you have specific questions...
Elements of Mixing - Social network for aspiring mixers

It's no GearSlutz...but it is specific to Rap and HipHop.
Peace!

I really like "Mixing With Your Mind" by Michael Paul Stavrou. He goes from giving tips on speaker placement, to gain staging, to EQ masking, compression, do's and dont's etc.
What I liked about it is his ability to "dumb it down"; explain it in layman's terms. He also gives you practical uses on the things he covers.

"Galapagos" by Kurt Vonnegut. Great book. Nothing to do with audio. And that makes it even better.

Sound on Sound magazine has an article series called "Secrets of the Mix Engineers" which describes in detail what they did on certain mixes, and includes what they used and want for.

This article

Learn secrets to mixing urban and electronic music—Read the Remix Mixing Secrets technical feature

Is a link I got from engineeringatlanta.blogspot.com that deals with mixing.

yeah Sound on Sound is great, and Bob Katz' Mastering Audio (he happens to be Gearslutz user as well)... try looking around on amazon.com too, the Listmania and So You'd Like To... lists are great for finding books like Amazon.com: The book that makes you a good sound engineer

" Make Mine Music" by Bruce Sweiden is an interesting read. If you can find an out of print version of " Sound Advice", that's a good one too.

Music, Physics, and Engineering. Professional Recording Techniques, Modern recording Techniques, REP was the best mag an neither mix nor sound on sound have approached it yet.

I won't use pitch correcting software. I use "coaching" maybe you've heard of it. It keeps working even when you don't have it on.

Someone on this site a while back recommended a collectable book set by "Bill Gibson".... The Instant Pro Series.
They come with instructional CD,s

3/ ditto EQ, Reverbs and Delays
4/ ditto Mixing
5/ ditto Mastering

There are some newer issues with "Hal Leonard" AND Bill Gibson.
