Well I haven't done anything new in a while....I promised myself I wouldn't do anything new until I finished mixing my album, but I had to play with the u87 I rented...

http://soundcloud.com/tdotz/pimpplayinholayin

Played the bass on my new music man stingray 5 string - yes I know I don't know how to play bass.

Need an opinion if the vocals sit right in the track or not.

The beat has potential but the vocals are really awkward. Sounds like you recorded it not wanting your mother to hear you.

I dig the kind of weird style of the vocals, but the vocal mix doesn't quite gel with the instrumental.

This is a dj mix as opposed to an original production, but any feedback would be appreciated: Gesture - Ultra Music Festival & AERIAL7 DJ Competition | Mixcloud - Re-think radio

Yo I like this track. I'd keep the bass in the center tho. You'll want to keep all your low frequencies, like 80-100hz and below, in the center 98% of the time.

yeah, this is dope man.
At 13:00 where the Katy Perry track comes in, the percussion or transition as a whole isn't gelling well. I feel like you could've done a really big transition but I know the bpm changes and that's why you had to speed up into the acapella.
A few of the tracks could be better suited, as in the fact that they (just a few) mainly stay right down the center and don't open up real wide. Doesn't really keep it interesting enough, no real build there. The tracks just don't have the energy, or keep it interesting enough to kick the crowd in the ass and keep em jumpin.
Really awesome stuff though man.

Cool song/beat! If I had to pick something, I'd say the hi-hat might be a little loud/noticeable, but it does sorta suit the style, and I'm a little biased against hi-hats that are too noticeable sometimes.

Here's a beat I've been working on for a while. (No hi-hats!) I'm thinking about doing my own vox on this one...

I like it. Idk if it is because I have had to much to drink, or it is just the right emotion for me at this second of life, but something about this is is just real nice. I would really like to see a more developed hook, maybe with a BIG drop into it and a nice arpegiator to give it some more speed, but aside from that I really like it. It's like it is all kinds of emotions fused into one, and I love that. I might want to get on this one.

I like those vocal parts on the 2nd half of the song. Some of the transitions are a little weird. Maybe some cuts or background elements could smooth it out a little bit. Definitely like the atmosphere.

Tight! This song makes me think about having

Did you record the vocals through the U87?

Good point about the transitions, the song has morphed a lot since I started and some things do trail off and start off awkwardly.

I like the idea of a more obvious drop, maybe even something a little dubsteppy. Right now the song just repeats parts, but I could/should take that arp part that happens twice and make it happen once as a bridge.

The vocal sounds are me singing but processed beyond recognition.

I do have a full pre-chorus and sung chorus part planned that will either replace or layer on top of the current vocal sounds.

I have recorded one verse and pre-chorus so far, just not ready to share the rap yet, because it's literally my first recorded rap ever and I wanna make sure I don't sound lame

Jo, I'm always interested to hear what other people come up with over my beats, so feel free to share

That kick is driving me actually insane i dunno why, perhaps too frequent. I'm not sure that it goes with the rest of the mood, or maybe just slightly too frequent. Trying to decide.

I would maybe refine the arrangement a bit, but it's dope. I couldn't stop freestyling.

thanks for the reply. the bass you hear was a 808 i had automated to sweep at certain parts, alternating as it went on. it stays center for the first half of the roll, then sweeps center to left, then center to right on the last two hits.thanks for the opinion, i will check it out and see how it goes from there.

thanks for your ears ,time and opinion! i been only producing for about a year and a half, and i am still learning alot of new things so i will look into the track and lower the hi hat just a bit
thanks again, for taking time out to voice your thoughts, much appreciated!

yes - the vocals were recorded through the u87

I pretty much decided I'm not gonna buy it
Although its not bad, its not AMAZING, and for $3200 I expect something that sounds AMAZING
I didn't fall off my chair or anything, my first reaction was 'meh it sounds like a mic...'
I guess my current mic isn't that bad, and the difference between the KSM44 and the U87 is not as big as the difference between say, FF400 preamps, and a Great River.

story might remember this one ....

http://soundcloud.com/tdotz/couldntsleep-1

It's an older track I did before I had any good hardwares - I found I couldn't get the vocals to fit, every time I boosted the high end enough to match the beat it sounded like digitalish ish on the top end

Still playing with the U87 - the chorus was done with the ???, I redid the vocals on the u87

I ran a bunch of the tracks thru some hardwares and tweaked some shit on the instrumental, think it sounds better now
I played the bassline on it, since I can't play bass its a little off. I'll either learn to play it better or just fix it with melodyne.
I mixed it in headphones so I have a feeling the low end is way too much.

Gotta play with the u87 for the next 2 days before I take it back!
