![]() I think the bass kicks are a little too heavy in the sub freq's - I'd drop the EQ on them a bit (not much!) I think the vox are a little low - but I also think they've had a little too much taken off the low end of them. I'd try decreasing the low cut on the vox (maybe the chorus should just be a tad louder - I like cutting chorus low end lots more than the vox) which may add enough volume on its own without actually increasing the track volume. Also, I like the echo on the bass synth, but I think it would sound better if you put a low pass filter on the echo (maybe around 1-3khz?) - just so the echo sounds darker and doesn't sound as 'big' as the main. Also I guess, the chimes sound a little loud - I would say the brightness is perfect, just a little on the loud side (again, only by a small amount) Other than that, mix sounds close to perfect!

| Thanks! Everything was done in Digital Performer. The actual beat itself was just individual drum samples dragged and dropped into the sequencer page. I don't ever use samples or drum machines- just works better for me. I'm using Logic now but the one thing I really miss about Digital Performer was the Groove Quantize function. Logic's is clunky and a pain in the ass to use.

| At the time, I went around and around with him about re-tracking it but his recording knowledge and gear was very minimal. So I just let it go and did what I could to make it sound as best I could.

| Sonically I think it's pretty close. HiHat sounds a tad loud on my monitors and I would prefer a little more punch to the kick.

Sounds cool. I would work with the vocals abit: add a little mod delay, reduce the "bassiness," and increase the high end.

| Actually, what I dislike is the tracking. Sounds poorly tracked.

thnx for the feedback guys beatjutsu, assuming you are talking about my track, yea, I think it's the synth bass that is a bit cheesy...... then again, the whole song is more fun then serious, feel wise. I would appreciate some feedback on this track here which is for my solo album I hope to release this summer.....but again, but make sure everything is perfect or close to it!......with that said....plz....analyze away! |

First time posting a mix in here. This is instrumental so far, but the other member in my project will be putting some vocals to this sometime soon. Any feedback's appreciated. I wouldn't call myself new to making beats -- I primarily write electronic/ambient stuff for my main project and I know this isn't typical hip-hop in a sense, but I wanted to give it a shot. http://soundcloud.com/bunrage/gobbles-and-giggles-01 |

Listened to your mix a few times ... first thing I should say is that it's a good song! So, right there, that's most important. I suppose if I were looking for ways to improve it I'd probably try to notch things out with EQ to give them their own places in the mix. There's a lot going on in the lower mids and I think doing some EQ cutting could clean it up a bit. I think I'd need to hear it a few more times to make any more suggestions, but most importantly it's a good song and that's really all that matters at the end of the day. Keep it up, man!

tdot: hey what do you guys think of this mix? Story: get better gear and move that mic outta the corner! tdot: uhh...the gear is usable and the mic is not in the corner Stu: the vox don't sound good because you didn;t capture a good performance when you were tracking Story: No Stu!...If you don't get it right in tracking it won't sit in the mix properly! Stu: ...uhh...sure Story...whatever you say man

I'm falling into the trap here by perpetuating an irrelevant discussion, so this will be last public post on it. My exact feeling was his mix was overall good, however his tracking did not sound good sonically speaking. My opinion. I feel it was more relevant to comment on the vocal sound than the performance, as he specifically requested comments toward the mix. Tracking quality is inseparable from mix quality - one directly influences the other. As for the quality of the gear, while the gear listed is usable, it's not really fantastic (no offense T), and a poorly treated room doesn't help. Again, just my opinion - but I think it's well founded, thoughtful, and formed with the best intentions.

| ![]() No need to argue - I felt both the tracking and mixing were sub part and so was the gear. I still think the *mix* could be a lot better - but you have a good point. Of course, everything I do has room for improvement ![]() I first need a new pre, and really need a new room ... |
