And Chris Lago... Why'd you have to pan this? I actually kinda dig some of your posts.

In general: I realize the vocals are buried. Thanks for your time and ears.

Hey man, nevermind Chris. He gets in his moods sometimes (winning)?

I will give you a listen later on. Right now I am busy...

Here's a couple of tracks I did in half-a-day each.

For this track I did two live jams (mpc, tr808, tr606, sh-09, ms20, dx9) recorded straight from the mix bus of my desk into Cubase and then very slightly edited/arranged:
http://soundcloud.com/decilinear/rear

For this one I sampled another one of my tracks through an Amiga1200 and chopped it up in my mpc2500:
http://soundcloud.com/decilinear/nitt

Not strictly hiphop, but ruff and live.
Soundcloud's transcoding aint the best either. You can hear it mush a lot of the snare hits.

joe 04 04 Gunpowder Nice sample, makes that song. Rap solid, well recorded. The chorus vocals were weak, consider getting a real singer.

Kaiborg (Winning) Overall sound is tinny on top. Sloppy synths. That main part kicks in and it is just a mess. The buried vocals are terrible.

jimelectric rear Not really Hip Hop, but musically nice. Main chord synth sound is static, loud, and redundant. But this is off to a nice start.

jimelectric nitt Drums don't hit as well as the above. There's a lot of arrangement and sonic & frequency clutter in the high mids and highs.

CTodd901 March 7 Solid drums & sine wave bass. Don't like the orchestral sounds. The tambourine to the left doesn't work very well either.

Nav wake-the-neighbors Great samples. Great drums. Very musical. Smooth easy mix on the ears, not too compressed. Put up some more.

Been having a lot of trouble getting a read on my mixes, especially my low-end; here's an early blueprint of something I'm working on:

Hazardous.mp3 - DivShare

How do the levels sound so far?

50 cent beat contest!!

What's good folk,

50 cent's holding a remix contest for his Ghetto like a motherf***er song. He basically delivered his vocals, a sample and a soft kickdrum on 1 stereotrack.

The rest was added by myself. I'd appreciate your feedback on the production & the mix!

Thnx,

Would appreciate some feedback.
And is there a way to change the panned out drums to the middle?

Not sure what you're trying to do with this. Has potential though.

Put them on a mono track. Mix in the stereo track to taste.

Those drums sound very nice. The samples are great, too. The only thing I'd like is a little more melody during the verse... maybe by letting the sample finish or chopping it up a bit.

I really like the contrasting speeds of the synths on this. That half-open-wah thing going on near the end is cool. Wish there was more of it.

Well, I was listening to A Tribe Called Quest's ''Get A Hold''
And I just wanted try the whole filtering a vocal sample thing and make a beat out of it. I'm sure Dilla did more to the sample on Get A Hold than what I did on my beat. So that's what I was attemping to do with it.

Tips? If any...

CTodd901 The sample's ok, the pattern lacks velocity and sounds phony. I won't comment on the Mix-Off mix,
as I put up a mix on that thread also. People can check it out if they get a chance right here: Hip Hop Mix Off!

Pgathriller Hazardous Drums ok. Bass weak. Synth good. The kick's far too dominant. Allowing kicks / bass to
be big but work together is tricky. It's not easy to explain but it can be done. See my mix at that link up there.

Spotless Complex Complain Creative sample work. Drums cardboard-y. Just stwitch the drum to mono. Boom
Bbap totally mono can work just fine. This will also give room for the samples, to be wide and carry those sides.

kenn BigPondLittleFish Drums ok, kick needs sub. Bass & samples okay. Vocal well recorded. Rapper has skills,
the voice gets too 'James Hetfield' on the chorus. 'Hook' not quite catchy enough. The mix is cluttered at times.

sequela miami-flashback Not typical HipHop and that makes it great. Very musical construction with elements
of retro. Lacks subs. A dynamic mix though. Generally not too compressed. Nice chord choices and arrangments.

I have no idea what I'm doing!
Written, produced, recorded, mixed, and mastered by me.

I think everything else here sounds so much better so any ideas welcome!

This track has alot of personality and that sir is worth mentioning. I like the hook, reminds a bit of early Outkast or Goodie Mob. Interesting arrangement, I like how there is a distorted vocal part in the middle of the song. Overall great effort!

Check me out above you!!

Didn't expect a response like that!

I had checked it before but I don't know what I could say. I am by no means a professional.
It definitely has a lot of emotion! (a good thing that I usually lack!) I'm assuming it was sampled? I like it a lot! The only thing I could think of suggesting is some of the drum samples sound a little clangy. Or maybe I just have something against that frequency range The rest of it sounds great - the bass sounds nice and tight and seems to fit in perfectly.

Thanks man,

Those drums are clangy cause I like it like that.

Thanks for listening, man!
