Check out the song in my signature. Made the beat and the rapper is my brother. Didn't quite no how to mix when I made this but opinions still welcome.
How can I make this mix better I tried so many things, but people say the mix is off still pretty bad.I swear mixing is harder then making the beat.Took about a hour to make it and have spent atleast 3 hours mixing
Really want some feedback/opinions on this janky track I made. It's somewhat representative of my style as of late
Check it out !
Sounds sound very "stock", and lack texture and depth. Sometimes the overly quantized rhythm of the drums doesn't gel with the rhythm of the lead synth, which is really what's driving the song.
Hey Will. Nice track! I think your ability to separate, define, and craft sound has gotten too good - meaning you're overextending a bit. Not everything needs to be so open, cause then it ends up thin. Go back in, and narrow some of those cuts, and make the cuts less drastic. Give a little harmonic love to some of those background sounds, and maybe brighten/excite some of the ambiance. Start filling things in now - especially the side information.

I'm listening through headphones, but it doesn't sound bad to me level wise. It all depends what you're going for. There is some eq'ing that could be done to really separate the string/orchestra sound from the kick and bass... I'd suggest tackling each paying attention to which frequencies bring out their respective "balls" and attenuating/boosting them to make room for eachother (you may know or be attempting this already, just saying).
I hate what soundcloud does to sound, but f it. It's progressive house, so you might want to fast forward. Or you can be brave and rock out to all 6 minutes of it.

Thanks Storyville ! I must agree with you. It's 100% ms2000 and i haven't done anything to try and warm things up or counteract it's generally sterile nature... I plan to start recording it through a nice demeter tube DI for now, as i work on acquiring some nicer analog pieces. And yep, the drums are kind of screwy. They're actually not quantized at all, I just rushed the hats without realizing it in the moment and built the whole song on top of them, and have had trouble reworking them to mesh... I've gotta start polishing my drums before i build on them so i don't get stuck with a bunch of rythmically-off parts

I like the beat better than the rap (just can't handle all that fresh swag). I feel like the whole song could be sped up though, gimme more bpm plz!
Fasho, yeah made the beat back when I first started making beats. About a year ago. I agree the bpm is too slow and due to my lack of knowledge at the time it was very stiff and quantized. Thanks for the opinion, appreciate it. Keep them coming er body.

sounds very pro to me, nothing stands out. it's unmastered right ? cool tune, checked out each section, like all the variation. the end bit sounds great.
Been a while since I posted anything in here. You guyzzzz miss me? Probably not.. but ehhh lol..
New joint. Hip-Hop.. with that sample CHOPPED all the WAY up. I have the sample chopped up in a way that it sounds like it's saying.. "Is he the optimal?"... the part of the sample I used is in the beginning.. doesn't come CLOSE to saying that in the original sample.. I love doing joints like this.
Enjoy.

It's mastered. The soundcloud encoding kind of lo-fi'd the sound a bit though, making it a little "unpolished." It was much nicer when it left my desk in 16/44.1.

Smart layering, distortion, and eq can all go a long way in giving those sounds some dimension.
I'd cut the drums, keep the synth, and then rebuild the drums working off the synth rhythm.

Thanks fam! And its funny because Alex told me the same thing lol i was gonna try driving the VCC and seeing what happens in the percussion department and get that harmonic saturation up (i'm learning lol). Thanks for the feedback fam, I always appreciate your feedback on and off GS. Now if only Ken would pop in here but I know he's busy as who knows. I'm gonna hit him up this weekend and see if e might be fee to stop by and talk june 30th in NYC.
I've been browsing through gearslutz for years but I rarely post. I wanted to share a new single I finished a couple months ago with you guys. It's a satirical hip hop song called "Wino" by Kemo Treats. You'll probably hate it
It's available for "pay what you want (including free)" on my website and you can see the ridiculous music video that goes along with it. It's guaranteed to weird you out.
well its been a long time since i posted anything....well its been a long time since iv done much lol
hopefully my mixing has somewhat improved, but doubtful
