I came thisthumbsupclose to purchasing a pair of Oceanway monitors, custom made and installed.
The room I heard them in was exactly the same dimensions as my control room too.
Allen Sides of Oceanway ALMOST sold me on them and shit...at $35,000 they were a steal...by comparison!!

Man...the mains in my studio cost more than $10k. Mastering rooms' monitoring rigs can easily cost more than $100k. Between the speakers, amps, cabling, and acoustics, you're looking at way more than a six-figure investment.

Listening to those rigs in the mastering lab is a brutally revealing experience (for better or worse...in my case, usually worse), great for everyone from the complete noob to the most experienced of pros. Having George Marino make suggestions to me was one of the most valuable experiences of my career. And my regular interactions with Jeff Lipton at Peerless (the best of the best!!!) are always a humbling eye-opener.

Again, +1 on sitting in with a great ME (though I'm a firm believer you'll get more sonic bang for your buck spending the dough on a quality mix).
