Vocals Recording In FL Studio 8

I was checking out FL Studio 8 online and seen some good things from it.
So I decided to go buy it.

I dig the fact that it records audio but It seems like you cant do "punch-ins" over the previous audio. I checked out the demo songs that came with it and after seeing the vocal parts having been recorded, i wondered how did they record it with out "punch-ins". Are the vocalist THAT perfect to where they can record without mistake?

Anyone using FL Studio 8, feedback and a workaround would be GREATLY appreciated! Thanks.

honistly i love fl for everything accept vocal recording. only thing i can think of is recording the punch in edison then click/drag to the spot you want. i am also curious to see if someone found a good way to record/edit vocals that rival other daws like pro tools or sonar.

i use cubase SX with FL specifically because i love it's audio recording for doing vocals.

you can't easily comp takes in FL. i think it does everything well _except_ recording stuff like that.

bounce your tracks, mix and record vox in another DAW. that's been my workflow for years now.

Oh ok. I use PT's but it seems like FL has more options as far as the beat making. just seems more "fun". I just figured that i could do everything in it

NAH..

I used FL for a while and just am not a big fan. The rendering engine distorts the hell out of VSTS and the audio output is just not consistent. Vocal recording is a nightmare in it. If you really like it, run it as a VST in another DAW. Personally, I think FL is a toy.

your first two comments are ********. straight up.

learn about gain staging and how to mix. that sounds like the problem, not FL.

I completely disagree with you. Throw some VSTS on FL and render an entire song with vocals, effects, violins, etc and tell me it sounds good. That's bullshit and you know it.

Now if you hook FL to another DAW that's another story. Rendering an entire song out of FL sounds like shit. That's why 9th Wonder gave up on it and now uses Protools.

Totally disagree on that... The only way to make stuff distort is to clip it.

I don't know if this entirely helpful to you, but I did some vox recordings in FL yesterday. I had it set to loop record over various bar lengths (I was wanting to layer some chorus bits) but because (for some reason - possibly that I had the original guide vocal channel turned off) the vocal channels were turned off after each pass, so the result was more like a punch record because I couldn't hear what I'd just recorded when it looped round again. Kind of annoyed me at the time, cos I was wanting to hear what I'd just sung! Hope that makes some kind of sense.

I record bass like this, should work for vocals...

Learn about Edison - Go into playlist - Highlight the section you want to punch into - record into edison.

Edison probably saved me from dumping FL Studio...

I really love edison man... you can just leave it on and jam or whatever. When you decide to keep something, it keeps it locked in time & also ready to shift around your playlist.

I don't use it to edit at all though.

yeah that little icon that lets you drag selected audio to different channels is the shit too. i've been using that and slice-X. deadly combo for resampling synth lines.

for the uninitiated, here's some dude on youtube using edison to sample some shit. kinda sick.

.....and here's ol warbeats chopping with edison. although i'm using SLICEX more for that now days. it kind of has edison built into it.
