Cast your vote to make this forum permanent!

Title says it all. I think it's great...and I know I'm not alone. Maybe we can stack up enough votes to sway the moderators. Worth a try anyways.

I voted no, but don't think it's a waste of space.

Just don't want tons of forums for every genre going, which is what would have to happen.

It's kind of hard to make a GEARslutz forum about hip hop because it really isn't about gear, know what i'm saying? It's all about groove.

^^^That's a good point. Hmmmm...... Also, nice addition to the poll with the fourth option. Maybe you could make this post "sticky" so we can encourage more dialoge on this topic. Thanks to all who have participated thus far.

I think it's very cool. I have learned to translate adjectives from the rock world that i read on forums daily, from equipment to techniques. It nice to see text that may say "deep bass" and "warm" and I don't have to translate it into the Hip Hop or R&B or Gospel world.

IT'S NOT REALLLY ALL ABOUT GEAR BUT IT'S ABOUT TECHNIQUES TOO. THE FORUMS ARE FULL OF TECHNIQUES BUT ALOT OF THOSE TECHNIQUES AND "MUST HAVES" DO NOT APPLY FOR HIP HOP. I VOTE TO KEEP IT. I HAVEN'T LOOKED AT THE FORUM THIS MUCH SINCE CHARLES DYE WAS GUEST MODERATOR.

i think we should DEFINITELY keep it, but change the name to "R&B, Hip Hop, Electronica" (or something along that line).

This would give a place to those of us who would rather discuss programming/ sequencing drums versus tracking and mixing a kit.

there definately arent any must haves. Maybe a Casio CZ-1, but thats all... joke. you can use anything, $hit I heard dope track come off of one of those a couple years back. but talking technique can alway open up eyes. gear boxes and transformers gets old, maybe there should be an all around producing section, but that is moving away from the Gearslutz insignia.

talking about getting midi in the pocket and writing string parts is part technic, part ear, part gear so why not discuss it.

That's an idea. I kind of agree with an earlier post though, that making it genre specific could open the flood gates to hella genre forums. I was thinkin like "MIDI & Sampling" or something along those lines. That's a forum that would be unique to GS but still maintain the overall direction of GS. The most heavily involved in midi and sampling is R&B, Hip-Hop, electronica, etc., but could still offer the info for everyone without splitting up the forum.

I don't know, just a thought. Keep em coming.

I just voted for permanent status (finally).

After seeing all the new use names in here that have posted for the first time and not having to skip over posts by a bunch of old dudes with pony tails (sorry, generalization but you know what i'm saying!), I think this forum could definitely be a good thing for gearslutz.

And Jules could probably generate a lot of forum-specific advertising for the hip-hop forum...

+1 good call... there should be a spot for us sequence heads! from what I hear on the radio it sounds like HEAPS of it is sequenced anyway, even the "live" stuff...

Some people like to on sequenced drums (loops, RnB, House etc) so let have a topic for those who love them and use it daily..

I think this forum is moving along nicely. No silly beefs, just lots of gear and production talk. No matter what the name, I just hope it sticks around in one form or another.

have to say i 'm feelling it too, i was a bit weary at first, those "hiphop production/engineering" forums usually end up all kinds of immature bs, lots of cats on them are either not experienced or don't know what they 're doing.
somehow hiphop seems to attract a lot of idiots wanting to be"producers/engineers/rappers" and whatnot.
glad to see there's people here that are real and knowledgable when it comes to the subject.

I'm also glad it may be a permananent forum, a lot of subjects discussed in the other forums, however very valuable and informative, don't always apply to hiphop/r&b style production.

nice one!

This I don't know to be true. It's a one month deal as far as I know. this thread was simply to see how people were responding to it and is independant from the actual moderators thoughts and ideas. I hear what you are sayin' though. Just don't want to step on anyones toes.

I don't work here...but I did stay at a Holiday Inn express last night!

I don't think a dedicated forum to any kind or style or music is good. Not for Gearslutz anyhow. It's not how we started off .....

This forums primary goal is to discuss gear ... not music styles. Of course that doesn't make sense you may say, because music styles blah blah .... yeah yeah ... I know ... but you know and that's ok of course ... but you get the picture when I say this forums primary goal us to discuss gear .... read the title !!

yeah, this is actually one of the only hiphop dedicated forums that i can actually ask a proper question in without 5 people streering it off topic flame in flame war about whether FL is doper than acid or some nonsense. its nice to be able to ask questions to people who know they're stuff, and mostly know how to spell. so definetely keep, not that my opinion means squat ;)

I've always felt that Gearslutz was too rock orientated. I do rock, and I love rock, but to ME there seems to be this unstated underlaying rock bias that permeates the place. This forum helps to balance things out somewhat IMHO. This forum is most welcome and I'm voting yes, let's keep it!
