Hey no ssl,

thanks for the heads up, not come across this guy before. Just checked it out, loving the track 'float' from the new record - comin' from where i'm from.

I'd also like to know who mixed that...is shipshape about? This place needs manny marroquin for guest mod!

Soulife is actually a collection of old stuff that Anthony Hamilton recorded for Atlantic back in 1999-2000. Rhino put out w/ no promo at all. They just looking to do 100k or so. He's still on So So Def.

Man, I bought into the hype on AH and grabbed his first album. I was sooooo disappointed. It sounded like crap, really thin and tinny and poorly produced. Is it just me? I want to give him a chance.

that album was a monster with alot of feel. I didnt hear the "thin, tinny, poorly produced" stuff. I dont listen to music like that though. Engineers are pre-programmed to break down every technical aspect and they often miss out on a great album or song.

i think the production worked for the music, it made the songs and the vocals stand out.. isn't it supposed to be like that?

Ummm...sorry, I'm a writer/producer and artist myself so I don't understand what all this about how engineer's listen to music....

The songs didn't grab me either. I keep hearing how great he is though. I'm not trying to start a flame war, just voicing my opinion.

As always YMMV.

"Coming from Where I'm From" or something like that was the one I bought.
I listened four or five times and sold it.
It had Jermaine Duprui's name on it but if he recorded it...well....

Coming from where I'm from and Charlene are some of the most soulful joints I've heard. Everyone has thier opinion tho, and we all usually like what we can relate to. I thought the production on those songs were perfect for what he was singing about. IMHO

Never listened to his albums but I saw him live in Amsterdam. It was a very spiritual experience. He started improvising and praising Jesus pbuh and I've never experienced anything like that in a musical context.

Coming Where Im From

One of the best albums. If not for production, then for the lyrics.

Real life stuff. Topics on being unemployed, first love, being left alone, a mothers love.......

Only one sex song, no rims, strip club, pimpin, mercedes benz or champagne.

Just thoughts, a voice and good musicianship.

Winner !
