thanks, I'll look into that. did you use shottky diodes? I don't have any - guess I could order some or just try silicon diodes or wire and make sure I don't connect anything else. guess it's worth playing around with some more. Mine just says 'scsi device unconnected' - is that likely to be a termination problem?
I have a couple syquest drives I tried but they always just spit out the disk right away - I don't know if there's something wrong with them or if I'm not using them right.

I just used a wire. I haven't got any other SCSI drives and couldn't be bothered with ordering diodes. I'm sure they'd be easy and cheap to pick up though and it'd no doubt be the safer option.

Before I'd done the mod I seem to remember my EPS16+ would search for the drive, not find it, and then continue to boot.

I'm under the impression that the termination issue with the 16+ was specific to Iomega Zip drives.

no, it doesn't have any built in sounds, you have to load or sample your own in for it to make any noise.

Why not forget about all that SCSI madness and just put one of these in it?

not a bad idea - you're still stuck with floppy img sized files, one downside. I'm fine with floppies though, wouldn't really want to pay for that. maybe some day.

Yes, but they'd load in a snip, not going tok tok tok for hours.....

No the emulator doesn't speed up the loading and saving time. It even emulate that tok tok sound (but AFAIK you can set it OFF)

peace

It does definitely speed up loading time when shown in a Korg DSS-1 video. The guy even makes a point of it.

Just to clear up some mis-information earlier in this thread, the EPS ("Classic") does NOT work with a Zip drive (or a CD-ROM drive, for that matter). The SCSI implementation is very rudimentary, and it's pretty difficult to find compatible drives for the EPS.
