Stutter Effect On Vocals??

Okay, I wanna know how they do this studder effect on vocals like in Jamie Foxx's "Blame It" when he says "Alcohol".....

I want to know what effect that is and one more important thing.....

Do they tell Jamie Foxx to say the word "Alcohol" a certain way, cause when they studder it, it's in a rhythm. It's hard to explain in words, but hopefully some1 will catch my drift.

it seems like it goes with the snare in that part so probably side chain that to a gate.

Or you could sample it, chop it, and play it on a drum machine...

don't be lazy. edit it the right way. cut/copy/paste.
the rest is just pitch shifting.

or as mentioned, get the sample, chop it up and insert it in the sequencer so it matches the snare.

Not a diss at all - but it's shocking how many producers don't even know simple tricks like this. Explore your DAW g!!! Set your grid quantize to 16ths or 32nds and bust out that scissor tool.

Or for more hands on put the word in Battery and use a MPD16 and bang out w/ the Auto Q on... This is a really simple task, no offense to the original poster but its just repeated audio. And just saw the Drum Machine post which is like the same thing. The way I heard it though it sounded like if they did play it from a drum machine they probably had it on 2 pads because of how quick and drum like some of the parts are..

It's likely that it was done on several pads because there's several syllables and several pitches (well at least 2 pitches). I doubt it had much to do with the quickness of it as that has more to do with your attack/release/decay settings...

apart from cutting and pasting it yourself by hand, you can also take the MondoMod plug-in from Waves. Go to the "Pulsing Gate" preset and automate the BPM/Hz....you can control speed of the stu.ttering this way, pretty cool. Used it on a synth in a commercial last month
