New CPU i7 processor not compatible with Pro Tools?!?

Is this true? I am in the process of buying a Dell computer, i7 processor with 12 gigs of ram DDR3 @ 1066mhz , will pro-tools be compatible with it?

Ok great, Because I want to run it if I have to mix already made sessions. I don't think I'd record in it. I'm currently making the switch to Sonar.

Hey Chris, can you let me know (pm maybe) once you get the dell i7 how it works with PT/Sonar. I use both and have been thinking about getting one of these dells. I've noticed a few people have built them over at the DUC but no one has mentioned the dell version. I can build computers, but it actually seems cheaper to get the Dell (maybe cheaper components). I'd sure appreciate it.

the I7 performs much better with a 64bit os... PT doesnt't work under Vista64...
in order to take advantage of that ram which honestly is overkill... you need Vista 64 or server 2008
so if you get an I7 with xp or vista you need to scale down to 4gigs of ram b/c you wont be able to utilize any more than that

... and Pro Tools is a 32-bit app, so it's not going to use more than 4GB of RAM no matter what OS you run it on. SONAR is another story. But, that doesn't really answer your question. Sorry :-)

it should bloody well work. synergy computers are basing there entire new line around i7 and protools!!

anyway the 32bit works brilliantly. great reports over at DUC.

Pro tools will be compatible shortly after Apple drops their new Mac Pro's w/ the i7's, which should be soon.
