compared to having a real arp plopped in front of you and then trying to figure it out and use it with a keyboard, ominsphere is a breeze (but not as satisfying). learn it and make it work for you, or sell it because it's money and space spent

Full Force started all the ambient sounds over Hip-Hop and R&B tracks...then Chris Jasper of the Isley Brothers...then Babyface in the late 80s and Teddy Riley did it on his Hip-Hop and NJS tracks.....then starting a few years later, the production team formerly known as The Untouchables (Eddie F, Dave "Jam" Hall, Darren "Piano Man" Whittington, Kenny Korenegay, Donell Jones (yes you read it correctly - he used to produce for his first album in '96), etc.) used ambient sounds over their Hip-Hop soul tracks.

So if those aforementioned cats can do it, then so can you if you have aptitude and apply yourself.

Get your IQ production game over a 100 at least. jejejejejejeeje Hack away at Omnisphere, you lemmings!!

From reading this thread through it seems to me that the OP has an awful lot to learn ! !

It is sad to see more and more people wanting quick fixes without actually learning anything or understanding how to make sounds and music.

Oh.. and.. You might want to drop F'ing attitude next time you talk to me

the thing is that omnisphere is dead easy to use.
if you know anything about synthesizers you can use it right away.
Selecting waveforms in a browser and adjusting the envelopes and filters is right in front of you.
Its actually a great synth to learn the basics with because it is so clearly structured.

Did you watch the tutorials at the spectrasonics website?

Anyways-there is a gigantic patchupdate in the pipelines.
next week there will be 2000 more patches to choose from.
Maybe you can find what you are looking for in there.

Agreed. I am FAR from a wholly competent synthesist, but I think Omni's laid out in a way that really allows me to explore the methods by peeling back layers of increasing complexity in the interface - it's quite brilliant.

Totally wrong!!

Omnisphere can be used in almost any genre of music, as many mentioned here that are creative and know how to apply a sound no matter what and work it or tweak it to fit it in the context.

I've been using Omnisphere on Urban songs etc.. even Jingles here in Canada and man simply rock!! If a VSTI sounds doesn't fit right away to your project then use your imagination and make it yours and you will see, you will be impressed how far your can go beyond the pre-sets sound!!

Come on... it's seem like today everybody just want the magical Vsti that you will dictate everything and see it work for you... well it's getting there with the possibilities of technology but if you want that extra edge i believe that you will still need to add your own touch! For that to happen, you need to bring the xtra mile

No hard feeling just my two cents!!

Peace!!!

I use omnisphere a lot in hiphop. I find that almost all VSTi's need to be ran through a good channelstrip to get them to sound properly and sit in a mix. But to be quite honest, i have a lot of VSTi's, but i can make the exact same sound with Albino, Hypersonic2, Xpand2 or any other synth.

All it will take is for a Hip Hop smash hit to come around using Omnisphere and this post will be moot.

I think you guys will really dig the 2000 new patches being released next week. They show off a lot of the potential of Omnisphere for Hip-Hop/Dance Punchy/Aggressive kinds of styles (as well as a lot of other genres of course too!)

The patch library organization is a lot better, you can now instantly filter the Browser to show only Old School, Aggressive Synths or Analog Classics or Percussive Synths for example.

Check it out on the 26th and please let us know what you guys think. We are really proud of these new patches and I really think you will freak over them :-)

peace,

spectrum

PS. Yeah Dr. Dre might be qualified to be considered an OK Hip-Hop producer using Omnisphere like crazy now. ;-)

I don't have any experience with Omnisphere, but I would like to say a small word in defense of the original poster WRT wanting good presets.

It seems strange to me that just because a synth makes it possible to design your own instrument that there is some sort of moral duty to do so.

It's not like any real guitar player needs to know how to design a guitar in order to play one, or a pianist need to know how to design a piano. It's great that this flexibility is there in synthesizers, but I don't see anyhting wrong with a keyboard player who can tear it up on the keys, but couldn't program a patch to save his life. And really, from what I've seen, there's an inverse relationship between the ability to program a synth and the ability to actually play one.

A lot of great players just want something that they can plug in and lay down their ideas with, and I don't think there's anything wrong with that. I myself am a tweakhead (albino wut) but I would give up everything I've learned about programming synths in a second to be as good on the keys as someone like Ryan Leslie. Mediocre presets in the right hands and the right arrangement take on a whole new life.

These are all good points.

Nobody accused the Beatles for lacking imagination when they used the Mellotron flute preset on "Strawberry Fields Forever."

Songwriting and feeling trumps texture any day of the week.

Although, um... I like texture a lot.

The Mellotron didnt have "presets" per se.
The used pre recorded 8 second tape loops of recordings of live instruments.
If you held the keys too long you could hear the loop points.
It was very archaic by todays standards but "cutting edge" for the mid sixties.
