808s & Heartbreak

Just wondering bout everyone's opinions on this album? (From an Engineer or Producer Point of View) My initial thoughts Wayne's Vox sound solid. Love the orchestration! it really gives some personality to each song. Kid Cudi seems to shine on anything he's on and Ye's melodies take away from the fact its all autotune singing to the point you kinda stop noticing.

Yeah, I like it quite a bit too. Say what you will about the auto tune and pseudo-singing he's doing, I really think he is opening doors for a lot of people to try new methods, and showing the businessmen that it can be profitable.

I'm just not that amazed. Its kind of cool He's making real music now, but he's not reinventing the wheel like everyone thinks he is. Busy orchestrations and chord changes have been around for a long time. The melodies are sooooooo blah, especially the rhythms. I have had enough quarter notes thank you. I just think its dumb to attach such "serious musicality" to the record since its a rapper that is attempting to sing. Its like the fat kid in gym class running the mile in under 10 minutes. Its great for him but relative to those around him its far below average. Its just mediocre blah pop. hate on.

i really dislike the general midi sounding instruments..but the percs on the album are distorted to perfection

the vocal melodies and progressions are pretty predictable, and the album can make me a bit depressed, but I take it for what it is.

in 6 months kanye will come out with a happy album. hes "happy" again. happy. look at that, twice as many records sold. just like the jay-z kingdom come retirement fiasco....smh...

From an engineering standpoint I actually really dig the sound of the album, just can't get into the content. I also like that its a risky move. Much respect for that.

Kanye does what he does very well. I have to admit though I like his earlier stuff better. It had more "soul". This one tends to rely more on production than on solid lyrics and melodies.....just my opinion.

Yo peep this out, Kanye has invented a new genre of music
Yes thats right ease back Andy Warhol it was Kanye west who invented POP ART
Check it out at 2.38 he says itunes can choose to use a new category which he invented he's called it POP ART & the only other artist that can be grouped with him is Pink Floyd. Also he he lets us know of his plans to be the greatest performer of this generation

I like the songs on this album, i just think he should of given them to a real singer, but maybe they're too personal. I dunno.

My biggest issue is probably with the live performances he's been doing with auto-tune. They suck bigtime. . . he had to start over 3 times on Jimmy Kimmel cuz he kept f-ing up, I mean c'mon that should tell u something.

The album sounds good to me... it's not amazing, but it is good. Sure, the autotune is over done, but it's not a bad example of the effect...better than Cher and T-Pain IMHO... those guys and gals made / make wack songs. I'm 35 and not afraid to admit something newer is better than ****ing Cher. dfegad CHER!

I never liked kayne as a vocalist, his voice is kinda bland to me (I like Kayne ol sample + tom rolls beats to). I dont really like the autotune fx but i think lil wayne and yes T pain (I dont really like T pain music) are way better than kayne at singing with it.

Maybe I'm just not able to understand what he did but on the real I dont want to. That dude cant sing autotune or not. I cant relate to that music.

The instrumental production is not my cup of tea but sound good.

the only uses of autotune I've been able to stand so far come from dudes that can actually kinda sing:

I'm gonna be honest. Copped the album today on an impulse... and like it.

I don't think it's musically amazing but could see this opening doors for some other "pop art" type of music which, maybe kanye just has no clue, but there are a lot of avant-garde/emoish/gothic type of stuff already with this type of vibe ... he just put it out there for the masses to digest.

I hesitate to say this album has inspired me to start writing ...

Kanye West is still the realest mainstream artist of the last decade and people find ways to hate on him. A great songwriter beat maker and someone who presents himself as a regular human being in the limelight. yeah he acts like a spoiled brat but atleast he admits it.

Kanye is trying to use the ole Jedi Mind trick on this one.

Projects like this is whats wrong with the main stream music industry in my opinion.

Auto tune is used to mask his boring and poor vocal performances which lack anything musical.

People aren't trying to find ways to hate him, they just don't like his music and its pathetic that he makes a living off of it when real musicians are starving.

Are you trying to tell me that he is original? his tunes make "generic" sound good.
Do you know what a producer is?
