Here's one of my better beats/songs (at least, I think so), "Dreaming of Open Doors."

I'd love some feedback, even if it only comes down to "Damn, that sucks balls!"

Too polyrhythmic? It's definitely not a straight "BOOM-BAP" type of joint...

yeah sounds more like electronic music to me... when your making a hip-hop track you gotta be able to hear a rapper on top. It doesnt have to be boom-bap it just has to have that attitude and rhythym.

This beat doesn't suck if we were to categorize it as electronic or something along those lines.

I like what I'm hearing though. If you were one of my boys I would grab this beat off of you and remix it into something hip hoppish.

there's a lot of stuff you need to work on but that gypsy track was the best one on there ... honestly i get a general idea for what you're going for and i think the best advice for you is nothing really specific, just to keep starting and finishing stuff and you'll begin to get a better feel for what you're doing and what "your sound" will be.

the drums in gypsy have enough groove to maybe hear some vocals on top of it but they definitely have to hit more on the low end ... some of the other stuff is SO out there that the concepts would definitely have to be tamed enough from a structure standpoint to be considered a hip hop beat but interesting anyway. keep at it and keep paying attention here... you're off in the right direction... what are you using to produce?

thanks i appreciate the promptness and the honest feedback.ive been working on beats on my own for about a year my setup is a mpc 1000,reason 4.0,recycle,basic mackie mixer,some records,turntable,audacity,axiom 49 keys,nova condenser mic, s57,

ive started out emceeing about 8 years ago,doing local shows with a live band,and was in a group for about a year,but got tired of the flakeyness,but continued rocking shows with a couple of bands.so then i decided to start experimenting with sound manipulation ,something i really enjoyed growing up on dub like scientist and king tubby,and basically started the long process of making my own compositions.obviosly i have a long way to go,so any feedback or advice is graciously appreciated.by the way i really dig out there type of stuff,ie gaslamp killer,flying lotus,odd nosdam and the anticon label collective,that being said i checked out your tunes tony,and you got yourself some talent my friend keep up the good work and thanks for being easy on a cat just getting his feet wet

by the way the reason i dont have vocals on the beats yet is because i have a lousy interface,but my broke ass can get one till i get my tax money or winning my fantasy football pool

sorry to be a babbling brooks , but what did you think of the guitar on the second part of that track gypsy

Here is my cheesy contribution...wrote this 3 years ago before I decided I wasnt that into writing hip hop style beats.....
Please dont talk shit if you dont like it...I dont normally write this style but always thought this one had a bit of potential...just a short clip cause I never bothered to really arrange it much.

Here are a couple more of my recent work-in-progress tracks. These are a bit more specific to Hip-Hop. The ones that fit have been uploaded as attachments, but here are Last.FM links for all of them:

New Beat (Can be downloaded for free here if you like);

New Beat 2 (also available as a full download here);

New Beat 3 (full file here, also attached to this post);

New Beat 4 (Free download here, also attached to this post).

All of the new tracks are attached to a WIP album: Beats and Such

I know, killer creativity on the titles, eh?

I'm very appreciative of the feedback on that last beat, and sure would love some more, if y'all wouldn't mind. As with the last, even if you comment is to say these blow goats, I'm all ears.

if you ever need to rap about running through sunflowers, petting kittens, or simply playing fetch with your favorite doggie, you'll like this beat. it could also work with baby momma drama, imo

One of my favorite! and unfortunately one of my simplest, which is sometimes the best which is weird, also which is hard to create, the best ones of mine are always the ones that take 5 minutes to throw down.

Enjoy

Garlic Brown: I'm diggin' that cut, reminds me of DJ Premiere, J Dilla, nice East-Coast vibe going. Don't knock it because it's simple, an awful lot of the very best Hip-Hop production work is simple as hell.

filterayok: nice groove, very danceable stuff.

@Pettycash: as a fellow GearSlut, I think that makes me enough "your boy" for you to snag one of those files and play around with it, if you want to...

Today 11:26 PM

...........cheers Eric, yeah we are in the studio at the moment £75 an hour to mix!!! yikes...but we are def seeing the benefit mixing on a desk and mix of plugs and hardware .....decent studios here are expensive but it means being able to steer the mix in the right direction...............the biggest difference to me is what a desk does to the width of the bottom end...summing in the box doesn't cut it in comparison.......in fact I'm going to post up the mix we are working on so if you get a chance give me your opinions
