Eastwest Collossus has some nice sounding harp patches that have that current sound that you are looking for...

They use the Preset from the MOTIF ES and XS. Sometimes they use "StereoHarp" or the Harp Preset before "Stereo Harp" (i.e. in Mario's - How do breath) of the Motif ES which name I forgot.

The only special thing about "Stereo Harp" is that it`s ultra WIDE and really a POP Sound. East West Colossus is also nice but it`s more a real harp sound. Maybe better if you go for the more acoustic sound.

This sounds familiar.

"that instrument in the beginning is in the "Plucked" section and its called KB tracked" apparently...

Thing is,their "harp" sounds nothing like a real harp.
A harp has overtones and resonance indigenous to the instrument.
To me,it just sounds like a cheap imitation.

phillysoulman, you are absolutely correct - and the synth-like vibe of the harp was also the intention. If they wanted a real harp sound, they would have recorded one?

Sometimes I put distortion and wild chorus effects on perfect, beautifully recorded strings. And I even ditch the amazing ambience tracks and run the strings through cheap stomp-box reverbs instead! .. Why? Because it sounds different.. I never try to emulate natural sounds - because nothing beats the real thing, I'm always trying to go the other direction - bringing new "life" to old familiar sounds..

Why did the guitarist from "The Who" slash his speakers to get a more gritty distorted sound?.. Because he wanted something different - he wanted change - something that would better reflect his mood and ambition.

And just look how much great distorted rock music his inspiration gave us.

Record the gliss at half speed, than speed it back up to normal speed and you are good.

Works also for string parts as well.

Xpand!2

Check out Xpand!2.

Obviously they didn't use this (PT8 only just being released of course), but the Harps in Xpand!2 sound very good and very close IMHO.
