Which synth vst to buy next

I bought Vanguard and am looking for something else.

In vanguard I feel theres only 5 real good sounds in it that are suited to making hip hop.

Can anyone recommend one for $250-$300 which has sounds usable but different to the ones in Vanguard

The IK Sample Moog is my new favorite. Best basses i've heard in a virtual synth and great analogish sounds too. tons of stuff that really blew me away. I'll be using it on alot of my records for sure. NI Massive is pretty dope too.

get a used hardware waldorf pulse. Same price league as a softsynth, but it can create bass that I have not heard from any software/virtual instrument. If it does not work for you you can still get rid of it without losing money. worth the try.
Best,
Pat

I hate to be the one to say this- but learn how to use the vanguard first- you can make a bunch of hip-hop sounds with it- theres no point in buying a whole new synth just for a new preset bank to scroll through and then realize there not that hot. That really the case with most plug-ins.

If programming isnt your thing try some new sound banks for the vanguard there are loads out there for like $25 each.

As Ken mentioned above Massive is ill but you have to know how to tweak it the presets pretty much suck and are definetely not hip-hop oriented.

"Suited to making hip hop?!?" C'mon, hip hop is one of the most open-ended genres ever! Shoot...why not take the most non-hiphop sounds you can find and make a track out of them? You might just invent the next flavor of the month.

Seriously, though, Vanguard is cool...you just gotta play with it some more. Give it some time before you think about dropping another couple bills. And if you ultimately DO decide to drop some more loot, look into hardware. 9 outta 10 times, it sounds better, plus it'll keep its resale value way better, so it's a good investment. You mighta hafta spend more, but the return will always be worth it.

exactly If timbo never dropped "my love" you probably would have still been on a motif and totally slept on a dance oriented pug-in like the vanguard. use whatever sounds good to YOU to make hip-hop.

In all honestly the vanguard doesnt sound very good- its thin and harsh sounding. If you want great techno type sounds to be used in HIP-HOP go for the hardware stuff like a nord or virus.

Whats good,

First off thanks for the replys,

Im no new jack to making beats, I really just want to have more options when making something, im not a lazy producer, I dont mind tweaking shit here and there I just find the sounds a little "thin"

I layer the sounds and add effects but as its the only synth I own, the majority of the beats sounds the same (its probably got to do with my style too)

Really all I want is something else thats not like vanguard that has some dope sounds.

Has anyone got anything on their myspace that could give me an idea of what there making with these plugins.

Over the last couple of months Ive been reading posts by people and checked their myspace pages and most times I havent heard anything that really impresses me.

What synth do you guys think timberland used on "break the ice" by britany spears.

break the ice is danja and thats probably the andromeda which is $3000. If you are looking for more warm analogish sounding stuff go for samplemoog or something like that if you are trying to stay vst and on a budget. The arturia plugs are also not bad for that stuff

You are not going to get a lot of sounds like people like danja use unless you really know how to tweak synths and invest in some hardware synths.

If you want you can pm me some of your tracks and I can get a better sense of what type of equipment you would probably like.

If you're looking for the Danja vibe you can get a roland SH-201 synth. The preset b-4 sounds a lot like break the ice and the c-7 preset will give you the arpeggio that is in "my love" and a bunch of other timbo/danja stuff. Not a lot of presets, but there's a lot of user presets. It sounds nice and integrates well with software. Check it out at GC.

yeah not a bad choice considering its in the price range of some pricier software- maybe you can even get one used for like 450. Not a bad entry level synth and yeah a lot of its stock sounds have been used in lots of hit records which is something you seem to be looking for.

To the OP, if you list your gear we can help you better. Like you say you just use the vanguard- but what do you use for basses, real instrument sounds, etc- you cant just be using the vanguard and drum samples.

Yeah one of the presets in there is the famous synth riff from Tim's 'Way I Are' it's a keyboard split..

Two of Rob Papen's synths come to mind: Albino and Blue. Both very, very powerful synths, very flexible. Albino can do most of what an Access Virus can do.
