| YOu might be better off tracking without compression and useing it when mixing! If you HAVE to use comp. while tracking..you could use the RNC for a cheap but good sounding comp! I do not track with comp. anymore but I have to say that I really liked my old DBX 463x.just for controlling levels..It was also great for bass!!!

| Lives for gear | Ok I'll be nice, get your notepad out. DBX 163 X: $45 to $75 bucks ART PRO VLA: $200 bucks I use both. The PRO VLA is 2 channels of tube compression. I usually go from the preamp I'm using to a DBX de esser to the dbx 163x to the PRO VLA Channel 1 at like 4:1 slow attack, fast release, then to PRO VLA Channel 2 at infinity:1 aka limiting fast attack, slow release (set threshold to taste) and then to the computer. I have eq on my preamp (PM1000) so I may sweeten with that before de essing or leave it flat with just the hi pass filter on. I usually have maybe 2 to 3 plug ins on the recording at this point, maybe 1 or 2 eqs and Event Horizon VST. However that may change, once I start using Rocket VST. Maybe it has something to offer, so I can go a little easier on the limiting before the DAW. But so far the chain works like gangbusters! ![]() Ok...nice mode off. Ebay is your friend, Craigslist is your friend, Daddys.com is your friend. Peace Illumination |

| Gear nut | my chain Usually Im using this almost every rap project.... Shure Ksm44 to ISA One to EMu-1820M to Waves L1(mono) recorded otherwise dry.... On processing main vox, usually URS EQ, (neve clone or api linear), to compressor (Waves SSL Chanelstrip or Waves API compressor), to reverb (waves IR-1).... Back vocals very similar setup, different settings and usually an added Blue Tubes Stereo Widener or Waves doubler and sometimes. Adlibs are usually (URS eq, URS 1980 compressor, stereo widener, Mod delay or PSP delay, blackwater reverb, panned extreme R and L. as far as fader settings...usually mains are set around -2db to -6db, backs around -20db and adlibs around 16db. Hope this helps...
